Hi Guys!

Thanks to all of those that sent good warm wishes and positive mental energy my way.  38 year old me was worried that she would not be able to beat the time of 26 year old "me."

I am proud to report that 38 year old skinny scientist achieved a personal best of 36:47 for her first 5K run out of retirement!  I bought my fiancee (who did hill work for me for 2 months) a bouquet of star gazer lillies, a thank you card, and made him a good lunch (hot chicken caesar salad, pesto tomatoe mozella salad, sf vanilla pudding and wine) as a thank you for all the time he put in wiht me.

I am 12 minutes faster despite being 12 years older!!!

Well done!!  That is a fantastic PR, not to mention a very good time for your 5K --  Woot!!  Love seeing this, as I am a runner as well and at 59 I'm just getting rolling now that I can go a full 5 Mi without a walk break, LOL!!  Keep up the great work, LOVE seeing a post like yours!  Congratulations!

Congratulations  Skinny! We're are getting better not older, right?! I can't run due to knee replacements but walk a bit faster every 5k I do. I am getting quite an accumulation of shirts now too. When I did my first one about 11/2 months post op I needed a L shirt and now I am goal and a S shirt fits a bit big at 25 months post op. Here's to feeling stronger and more fit now than ever!

Good job Karen!  My mom had knee replacement and has to walk and do daily exercises to maintain Range of Motion!  I think it is awesome that you are out there and doing it as my Mom (who is "old" in her mind) requires some prompting, especially in the winter. I wish she would consider mall walking.  it is great that your times are getting better and better!  Do you tell your physical therapists or knee surgeons this?  I bet they would be really pleased about your self displine (sp) and physical improvement.

As far as the shirts, if they are getting to be too much you can either donate them to charity, use them as workout wear, or MAKE A QUILT out of them.

Runners do T-shirt quilts of their races, you should consider doing that with yours because those race-walks are an accomplishment that needs to be recognized too (i.e. they represent lost pounds, a daily decision to eat right/workout/take care of yourself to prevent yourself from backsliding into MO, and improved range of motion and strength in that knee).

You could even frame it or use it for sleeping in these cold winter months.
