Teeth ruined?

I went to my dentist yesterday and asked him if he treated many WLS patients. He said yes and that their teeth in the back are completely destroyed because of all the vomiting. Can anyone enlighten me with this. My mind says that if you vomit you will brush your teeth after so where does the ruining of teeth occur?

My paperwork went in yesterday for insurance approval so I'm at the waiting period right now.

thanks

Vomiting is not a normal occurrence after WLS. Does it happen to some people? Sure, but I think the vast majority of us don't experience any more vomiting than someone who hasn't had surgery.

My dentist is actually thrilled with my mouth since surgery. Not drinking high sugar pop anymore has made a huge improvement in my gum health.

I have never vomited once. When I had my lap band, I vomited almost daily. Always felt like I was choking to death. No feelings like that with RNY.

I have only threw up once. And it was because I ate too fast.So it was my fault. I think there a lot of people who make themselves throw up if they ate something they shouldn't.I worked with a teacher and when we would do breakfast at school all of a sudden she would run to the bathroom saying she had to get rid of this. I think she went from one eating disorder to another.

My dentist is also really happy with my gum health.  Previously I had pockets all over the hygeinist was working to remove.  After WLS all but three pockets have filled in and my gums look and feel great.  Vitamins, high protein, no sugar ... who kmows why bit this mouth gets an A+ every time.

That is absolute dreck. Find another dentist. He is misinformed in the extreme.

Sustained vomiting could damage your teeth. The stomach acid is erosive. I have only vomited about three times.

I fight badgers with spoons.

My teeth too are better with the lack of added sugar in my diet. I have not vomited once in the 26 months since my surgery. I am much healthier than ever before. If you listen to your body and measure your you shouldn't vomit. If you do you need to see your surgeon!

All the vomiting?  What an odd thing to say. I've never vomited since having surgery.  If you feel comfortable, I'd inquire more to find out where he got the idea that WLS patients vomit so much.

Thank you all.  I've been thinking that he was probably against the surgery and was negative because he doesn't agree. He didn't followup with any questions for me which I found strange.
