Just Starting My Journey

I have just started this journey on weight loss surgery. I meet with my surgeon for the first time in late Nov. According to my scales, I am about 1 1/2 - 2 lbs away from my 5% goal. Then my surgery date will be set.

Does anyone have any tips, advice, recipes, etc. for this journey? Both before and after the surgery? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

My starting weight was 280 lbs. My scales tell me that now I am at 267.2 lbs. Goal weight after surgery is 130 but will be happy with 140. My next official weigh-in is 11/5.

TIP: Start the post-op lifestyle before WLS to make things easier for you during the adjustment phase.  ADVICE: Bathroom issues are my biggest complaint and recommend buying a bottle of Miralax powder if constipation becomes an issue for you.  RECIPE:  Chili is my fav go-to meal--  1 pound browned hamburger, 1 can Manwich sloppy joe sauce, 1 can drained kidney beans, 1 tablespoon chili powder.

I  agree, start making some adjustments now so that its not a sudden change after surgery. Like be sure to get all your water in. Also start logging food in MyFitnessPal and maybe doing some protein shakes. Maybe get on a exercise routine now. that way it will already be a habit after WLS.

Also, take pictures! you will want to see these side by side as your progress! My surgery was on August 1st so the first of every month is picture day! It takes a while for your head to catch up with your body so seeing proof in pictures keeps you motivated!

Lisa (38) my goal is 160 lbs.... my dream is happy and healthy

I agree with both of them!  Pictures and habits beforehand.  Follow your plan!  Use your support system!  You can find so many recipes by searching this site or bariatricfoodie blog or theworldaccordingtoeggface or just googling meals all together.  Good luck!!!

I began my post-op lifestyle as soon as I made the decision to have surgery.  I follow my surgeon's program and attend support groups twice monthly.  I have re-set my weight goals as I have achieved them.  Lastly, enjoy taking care of yourself.  It is a whole new way of living!  Good luck!
