Doctor does not require liquid pre-op diet, has anyone else had a doctor not require liquid...
Hello all, this is my first post. After years of wanting to have RNY I received my approval on Oct. 24th with a surgery date of Dec. 3rd.
I had my pre-op nutrition appointment today and found out my doctor does not require a liquid pre-op diet prior to surgery. Has anyone else had a doctor that did/does not require a liquid pre-op diet prior to surgery?
Yes, me. My surgeon required a 7 day liver shrinking diet that consisted of lean protein, no/low fat, zero carb, green veggies at every meal. I did it for 10 days (just to be sure lol) and my liver was perfect for surgery.

My doctor did not require a liquid diet at all. Liquids only after 6pm the night before surgery.

Many surgeons don't, actually. Mine didn't.
She encouraged a low fat diet during the last two weeks pre-op, but she said the evidence just didn't support that you could significantly shrink the liver even on an all-liquid diet in just 7 or 14 days (and she was realistic enough to know that most patients wouldn't stay on a liquid diet for more than 2 weeks).
