NSV-I sink with a buoyancy belt on!

As of late, I have been trying new things at different gyms.  I am trying to find different "winter" activities as the reality is..sometimes it is going to be too cold to jog/lumber and jogging/lumbering on "dreadmills" is boooooorrrrrinnngg!

So I went with a friend and gave aquabootcamp a whirl. It was a blast!!  The water was warm!!  The pool area was nice, hot, and humid. Definately going to be that on cold weekend mornings!

Anyhow, since this was my first class, I was quite apprehensive.  My girlfriend assured me that "I would have to try to drown" with the buoyance belt on.

I put the belt on, tightened it up, and jumped it. Swam over to her and had a conversation. I noticed she wasnt "treading water" so I stopped kicking and dreading water and promptly SANK!!!

The instructor checked stuff out and assured me that the reason I sunk was because....wait for it...wait for it... I HAVE A LOW BODY FAT TO MUSCLE RATIO!!!

After years of being morbidly obese, someone essentially called me "SKINNY" enough to sink!  I remember when I was closer to 300 lbs, I would FLOAT without trying!  Now I am freaking sinking and dont even stay up with buoyance!

Yay!

Floating without trying was one of the clues I had to make a change........ This past summer I found I no longer have that problem. It's a fantastic feeling!!!!

I had something similar happen to me this past summer.  I normally would just jump in our pool and float around effortlessly.  I jumped in this summer and found out that I could no longer float....low BMI!

HI! I have another question for you. I noticed we have similar starting and ending weights. HOw long has it taken you?  I have just started my 11 month post-op and am about 15 lbs away..and the pounds are now coming off soooo slow.

Is it going to pick up again?  Has this been your experience?

I had my surgery on Sept. 12 of 2013...so, roughly 14 months.  Everyone loses at their own pace.  There were months when I lost only a pound or two....other months I lost a lot.  Be patient with yourself and enjoy the journey!  You will get to your goal!

OMG!  I had never thought about this.  My husband and I used to go snorkeling and I never needed a float.  I could "tread" water forever ... but he sunk like a stone.  Now I am so curious to see if I sink!

I found losing my ability to float effortlessly a bummer.  Swimming in the Land of 10,000 Lakes was one of my favorite summer things to do...not only that, the northern Minnesota lakes are now too cold to enjoy, as well.
