For those of you that have ZERO interest in food post op...

Did it ever return?  I have no interest in food.  It's a very strange transformation from the pre-op self.  I don't like feeling overly full, so I stick to the foods I know I can eat comfortably.  I eat because I have to, that's pretty much it.  I do meet my protein goals every day.

I'm just curious for those that had a similar post op reaction, did your interest in food come back?

At six years out my interest comes and goes. I do make sure I eat so I stay healthy and my metabolism stays strong.

My surgery is next week and this sounds awesome.  I hope it works this way for me.

For me, food sounds good in theory.  I'll read a recipe or a menu item and think "that sounds good".  When I eat it, though, it's more like a 'meh' reaction.  I never get the sense that I really enjoyed a meal.  It's more like I finished my chores.  Sort of.  Does that make sense?  I'm not afraid to try new stuff, though.

YES, that makes PERFECT sense.  That's exactly how I feel now.

Wow...this describes EXACTLY how I feel. I simply don't enjoy food any more, and sometimes it's very depressing. Eating is now a chore (like you said) and not something I enjoy. Food was such a big part of my life -- what to cook, what to eat, where to go out to eat, dessert, appetizers, drinks, etc -- and now it's simply not there. And I'm having to deal with all the emotions what I used to stuff down by eating. I WISH I enjoyed food, even with the minimal I can eat. I don't want eating to become like cleaning the toilets -- something I have to do whether I want to or not.

Totally get that. Food rarely tastes good, and I so want it to taste good... it is disappointing.  I do get hungry sometimes... but not ravenously hungry. If I haven't eaten in awhile and I am hungry I get excited to eat and after 3 or 4 bites.. I's like eh- I'm Ok now. So weird when before you would have shoveled down a plateful.  I do have to remind myself to eat.

I'm about 27 months out and I still have little interest in food. I cook and eat because I have too. It doesn't taste bad in fact I notice and enjoy the flavors more than pre surgery, probably because I eat more slowly. It just seems most days nothing really sounds good to me. Totally opposite from before surgery when most of my time was spent thinking about what I would eat next!

There came a point where I did have to start eating again because of not consuming enough food for normal bowel movements.  I do eat now, but it is still a chore 90% of the time.  I cook great meals, but am full after a few bites and just eat what I need to function normally.  I have never been hungry again after RNY surgery.

i thought that this was just a part of the honeymoon period but its good to know that even 7 yrs out some people feel the same.

I would love to really enjoy food again but it makes it so much easier to lose the weight and stay on track when food is fuel and not pleasure. Its that whole "eat to live... and not live to eat" thing.
