Am I losing enough?
I am 2 months out and have lost 40lbs. I haven't had many problems but I'm wondering if I'm losing fast enough. I started at 390 and am averaging about 5 lbs a week. My clothes are smaller and I can tell I'm losing. I am making sure that I'm getting my protein and I'm not eating more than 700 to 800 calories. I am swimming for an hour plus 3 times a week.
I have a friend who had this done 10 years ago and she doesn't think I'm losing enough. Should I be doing more? I really do not want to lose this opportunity.
I had a 50+ BMI before surgery and thought because of my large size I would be a quick loser. Not so. I only lost 14lbs the first month. I had read people lose 20-40 the first month. Does age have something to do with it? maybe...post-menopausal? maybe....slow metabolism? maybe... who knows for sure. You realize at the rate of 5lbs a week, that's 130lbs in 6 months? even a 100lbs in 6 months is phenomenal. I do know the feeling, I am 3 1/2 months out and still worried about maximizing my opportunity. As my Doc kept saying to me "I am not worried" :) Just keep doing the right thing, sounds like you are doing great!

I am almost 2 months out and have lost 35 pounds. But it isn't easy. I have long stalls- like 1-2 weeks- then lose a couple lbs and then stall again. It seems I've been at 199 forever, but my posts show I was at 206-208 for three weeks before the scale moved again. Slow and frustrating. From these forums, I have learned that being a light weight to start with is probably why. In the beginning if you have a lot of weight to lose, you burn more calories because you have a bigger body to move.
I should be exercising regularly, and I'm trying to like that. I try to stay under 800 calories a day. If anyone can answer this question I'd appreciate it. IF I don't exercise and stay under 800 calories, will I continue to lose? Do I HAVE to workout or cut calories? I am 57 years old so I do realize my metabolism burn is almost nil.
