I am curious to see what dose of synthroid people are taking, if you take it of course.! And does it have any affect on your weight??? I take right now 100 mcg of synthroid and 240 mg of amour thyro every morning. Thanks for any input.

I do take synthroid, but the smallest dose possible, 25mg. My surgeon said it will not have any effect on my weight loss.

I remember reading that a dose too high of synthroid will cause you to lose too much weight. I don't think you have anything to worry about, you should call the office to make sure.

I was taking 112 mcgs of Synthroid before surgery.  My TSH was around 1.43.  Then about 2 months after surgery, I had labs done & my TSH went up to 4.93, so my endo increased my Synthroid to 125 mcgs.  My latest labs from last week has my TSH at .81 - my endo is going to keep me at the 125 mcgs.  It's important to keep up with your labs :)

I was on 127mcg before surgery and have kept taking the same amount.  It never seemed to affect me much either way.  Though I did start taking it at night (before surgery) because I would get ravenously hungry if I took it in the AM.

My numbers were not where they should have been prior to surgery at that dose but at my 6 month follow up, they were completely in line.

I take 175 mcg.  It is same that I was taking before my surgery 7+ years ago.  The only difference is that now once a week I take two pills instead of one to give my levels a slight boost.

As long as your levels are in the normal range, whether you take synthetic thyroid hormone or not should NOT affect your weight.  (One of the things that drives me absolutely crazy is when people are taking very small doses of thyroids meds but insist that their weight problem isn't because of what they eat, that it is just because they have low thyroid.  BS.) Even being slightly high or low doesn't usually show up in changes on the scale. If your levels are significantly too high or low, though, your weight absolutely can be significantly impacted.

Hey, it takes whatever dose it takes, you know?!?  It's the levels that matter.

I take a very high dose of Coumadin (10mg/day, plus an extra 2mg 3 days per week) just to keep my INR at a level that most people can obtain with a dose that is half of what I take. It is what it is, as they say.
