Pain Meds for Chronic Pain Absorption

Any of you who take pain medication for chronic pain, did you find that you had to take less medication as you lost weight or was there no adjustment needed. I currently take 7.5mg/325mg vicodin 3x a day for back pain and it would awesome to be able to move that number back.

It is unlikely with pain meds that losing weight will affect the strength of the pain meds you need unless losing weight affects the amount of pain you have (e.g., if you have joint pain from being overweight, losing weight might lessen that pain).

Unlike other types of medication, Vicodin isn't dosed based on weight. Some people actually find that pain meds don't last as long after RNY.  (I have experienced that myself, but I have yet to find any solid medical evidence as to why that would be, and the bariatric surgeons I work for are skeptical about it.)

Interesting to know, thanks. I have cervical facet disease and scoliosis so I don't know how that will be affected by my weight loss. I hope to see some improvement there. I also have near daily migraines and fibromyalgia so I am also excited to see how those change after surgery.
