ok friends, this thought just occurred to me... what do I do for clothes once I start losing weight? I sure can't afford to buy new clothes every time I drop a pants size... Garage sales aren't exactly booming right now ... ?? What have ya'll been doing ?

Friendly suggestions:  shop friends/family closets for hand-me-downs, consignment shops like Goodwill, buy inexpensive clothes from big box stores, buy stretchy clothes, request donations from a church, sew/safety pin/belt clothes smaller, or buy a couple of well-fitting items to wear over-n-over til it's time to go shopping for smaller sizes again.

Also look through your own stuff as you are starting out your journey.

I had a few bins of clothing (good quality versatile pieces) that I had saved and used over the years in my many trips up and down the scale.  I'm about half way and I've managed to shop my closet and not really had to buy anything yet.  That said I have started researching good thrift stores and consignment shops in my area because I'm getting close to the end of my bins size range, and I refuse to spend a lot of money on temporary clothes.

A few other tips I've picked up - accessories are your best friend (esp scarves!), a belt is a necessity most of the time, make sure your outerwear fits properly and a good haircut can cure all.

Thrift stores for sure.  Especially if you have access to ones in richer areas - you can find some great stuff!

I cant wait until I am able to say I need more clothes.  I am still a newbie so when I get to that point I think I will just wear a belt as long as possible and be so glad they are big on me.  lol Wonder how long it takes to need a new size after you have surgery?

I found in past weight loss attempts that I would need to change sizes for every 20 lbs. I lost until I was out of the X's and then it was every 10 lbs. (20 lbs. to move from 1X to XL or 20W to 18 W but once I hit regular sizes like a 16 (no W) then it would be 10 more lbs until I hit size 14!

I have rebuilt my wardrobe almost exclusively at thrift stores - I am a frequent thrifter -lol - but have scored great clothes for very small investment.  Also check eBay and Craig's list and in my area there are several online garage sales on Facebook.  Good luck. Shopping has become a lot of fun for me, rather than something that was humiliating and frustrating!

I bought one pair of dress pants and one pair of casual pants( shorts or jeans) in most sizes on the way down.  Between some clothes I had in a box and this one pair of pants I had done pretty well. Except when I got to a 14 I thought I was done....so I bought more.... Now I'm. 10. Ugh!
