dumping question
I am just curious about dumping syndrome. If you eat something that causes you to dump, how soon after eating it does it usually happen? I am just 3 weeks out from my surgery but It is something that I do think about (for when I am eating solid foods again). Does it happen like, before you even finish eating? or is it like 20 minutes later when you think everything is ok? I hope I never do but I just want to be well prepared. Thanks

It only happens with sugar and it's usually 15-20 min. The time it takes to move through you and hit you intestine.

Mine happens right after I eat or during eating. I get really sick. I dry heave and get really sick to my stomach. Break out in sweats and feel like I have a fever because I have chills all over. This is my 4th week out. But I am more sensitive then others so my story might be different. Believe me you will know when it hits. And it for sure isn't pleasant.

Was this happening after the peanut butter. There is sugar in peanut butter and some high fat foods can cause a reaction but not necessarily dumping. I think you are having other issues.

It will hit by 30 minutes after eating. It is also completely avoidable if you control your diet. Dumping syndrome only happens with sugar or simple, refined carbs.

Listen to Grim! He is right. It is the sugars. I have never dumped off of fat (like a piece of cheese). And the amount of sugar can be small. For me it was TWO BITES of someone else's cherry cobbler...
And I barfed in public (well the gals rest room). I have always hated puking (it hurts) and after RNY it hurts just as bad as a full sized tummy despite having a little pouch.
Just dont do it.

I didn't say you dump off high fat foods, but I did say they can cause a reaction.

Never said you did chili.
However, many on this board are confused about "dumping" and think it is akin to "taking a dump" (i.e. diaerrihea (sp) versus vomitting) and the mechanism through which dumping arises..
