Is this something we need? My Dr. has it on my list of labs?

  • Help identify vitamin B12 deficiency or folic acid deficiency. ...
  • Help identify a rare inherited disease (homocystinuria) that causes a deficiency of one of several enzymes needed to convert food to energy.
  • Help determine a cause for otherwise unexplained blood clots

Why do I need this test if I am having my B12 and Folate tested?

Also is listed MMA ?

I don`t feel I need alot of the labs he has ordered

What exactly are your specific concerns?  They're just tests.  If your doctor feels it will give him or her a better perspective on your overall health and well-being what are your objections?

I guess you are right, if he wants then tested . I should consider myself lucky I suppose. So many on here are upset that their  PCP or Surgeon that won`t order labs that we need.

Thanks for your reply and I now look at it in a better perspective.

My personal concern would be who is going to pay for them?   Many insurance companies balk at tests when there is no evidence that there is a problem so just be sure you are not going to end up with a large bill!

It seems that most people who have a ton of tests without reason are on Government funded healthcare (which I believe we should all have).

Very good point!!!          I will have to give my Insurance a call, I certainly do not want any large bill, and some tests are expensive , could add up quickly ...

Thanks for bring that to my attention Kim.

Is Kim how you would like to be addressed or your full user name?

Please call me Kim    I know some of these tests run into 100's of dollars - which is ok if we need them but if not, then a waste of money!

My relationship with my doctor is very much a collaboration so she's never surprised when I ask questions or have opinions, so don't worry about questioning him/her on their reasoning for ordering all this!
