Pre-Op here, any vitamins or anything I should start now?
I was thinking about getting biotin and nioxin for when I have the surgery so I can start them both right away and try to prevent hair loss. I lost my hair when I had chemo so I really don't want to go through that.
Is there any reason to start them before? Are there any vitamins or supplements that I can start ahead of time that would help? Or just wait until surgery?
Thanks - just trying to make the best effort I can since this is such a big deal.

Unfortunately, there won't be anything you can do to prevent the hair loss. Biotin and nioxin won't do anything because your hair loss isn't going due to a biotin deficiency. I've seen many on here comment that they got through the hair loss with a cute haircut and some good shampoos that help give body to their hairdo. I myself didn't do anything special. I started losing around 3 months and it stopped around 5 months. It has been growing back pretty quickly. I would not focus so much on the fact that you will lose some hair, but that you will be losing weight and are becoming healthy. Good luck on your surgery.
I am also a cancer survivor. If you pm me I can describe in greater detail how the hair loss after surgery compared to what I experienced after chemo. You might want to be careful about adding too much biotin since an excess can cause you to grow some unwanted hair on your face, chest, back, etc....
Try not to sweat it too much this isn't the same kettle of fish at all. No one but me could even really tell I had lost some hair after surgery. It's not like you are going to wake up with handfuls on your pillow like after chemo. Mine has even been growing back in now already and I'm only a year out.
You will be shocked at how much easier to cope with this is compared to what you have been through before
good luck
