Big Pouch/Small Pouch Days

I know we are supposed to have 70-80 grams of protein daily, but some days I want more food.  Yesterday I had a small piece of cake for my husband's birthday.  Last week, was my birthday, and I didn't order a cake or have a meal type celebration.

Today, I am not hungry.  I have been fighting a cold-headache, chills, etc.  I don't feel like eating.  I only have 40 grams of protein in for the day and 300 calories.   Yesterday I had 800 calories.  I usually average 600 calories.

Do you make yourself eat when you don't feel good?  I don't mean in the beginning when you struggle, but more like after 2 months after surgery when you are eating regular foods and trying for low carb/high protein.

On days I'm not feeling well I make sure I'm getting in fluids and protein. I'll usually have a shake to serve both purposes.

Never force yourself to eat but always force yourself to get your fluids in.

I feel like my pouch changes sizes too. I wonder if I still have some swelling. Surgery 7/31. Yesterday we went to a Korean restaurant. I am not a big vegetable fan, so protein first works well. However, I love Korean vegetables. Probably ended up eating more than a cup ful and did not feel  over ful. Also had broth, fish and tofu. The most I have eaten since surgery. Digested well and stayed satisfied longer.

I still feel like there are big pouch days and small pouch days..... If you want more food, have more protein or a greek yogurt if you want something sweeter. Not cake. the 60-80g is a minimum not a maximum. A day you are not feeling well is different... and I agree focus on your fluids first. I stir plain protein powder into soup and things to get the protein in too if i am not up to normal eating.

On "grouchy" pouch or not feeling well days and  I can't get all nutrients by eating solid food - I drink liquid protein or mix powdered protein in SF pudding, greek unflavored yogurt, smoothie, etc.  I always get protein (80-100 gm) and my liquid in - no matter what.

Best wishes
