Came across this neat article about long term benefits of WLS highlighting gastric bypass.  At the ten mark the researchers had weight information on 564 patients and out of them only 19 regained their weight.

Great post LG, thanks.

One of the things that surprised me about this study was how much better the long term weight loss was for RNY over VSG. Interesting.

Research/study is very interesting however, not very accurate.  Study is based on 1800 and 1236 didn't participate.  Leaves only 564.

What is inaccurate?

I'm not sure what's inaccurate. The write-up specifically says that that the results are regarding the 564 participants. In long term studies like that I don't know that is all that surprising.

564 after 10 years is a very large study. Most have as low as 30, so this is pretty significant.

It's impossible to have a ten year study without a large percentage of people dropping out.

The entire 1800 may not have completed the study, but 564 did and to have ten years of weight information on them and having only 19 gain their weight back that's nothing to sneeze at.

Just goes to show if you follow the plan for post-op lifestyle changes then anyone can succeed at WLS and have great long term results.

After four years, those who had gastric bypass lost nearly 28 percent of their starting weight. People who had sleeve gastrectomy lost about 18 percent and those with gastric banding lost about 11 percent, the researchers found
