VSG to RNY

I was just wondering if there is anyone on here that had a revision from VSG to RNY? Their experiences? How much they lost with both surgeries? How long did you wait?

A little about me.. July 20th, 2015 I had VSG, weighing 479 lbs I am over a year out now, and had my one year follow-up with my hospital, they since gave me a date to meet the surgeon to discuss a revision to RNY which is Oct 14, I am so excited!!! I have lost 156 lbs and so many inches that I have stopped counting. I have heard from the team at TWH that they will likely perform the RNY 1.5 - 2 years from having the VSG to give me the chance to lose as much as I can.

RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 60.

77 lbs lost and counting!

VSG on 05/12/14

I revised from VSG to RNY on 7/1 because of severe GERD that started 1 year after my sleeve. I had a great recovery. with both surgeries combined, I've lost 130lbs total. I lost all of that with my sleeve, then gained when my GERD was bad, and I've now lost all my regain (almost 1 lb to go and 3 lbs to goal). So, I didn't lose much weight and can't help you on that front. If you have any specific questions about the difference between VSG and RNY, let me know.

That's amazing!!! 130 lbs is a lot of weight, something to be proud of, I am proud of you :) I don't have GERD, so lucky, hope it does not develop. Did you have acid reflux, heart burn before getting the VSG?? I heard that people who have these are more likely to develop GERD post-op. What year did you have your VSG? What Bariatric Centre did you go through?

VSG on 05/12/14

I did not have any Reflux or heartburn prior to surgery. My initial surgery was in May 2014 and my reflux developed about a year later. I dealt with it for a year before converting to RNY. I'm in Los Angeles and had my surgery here at Cedars Sinai Hospital

You have done an amazing job!!! I wish I could just go in for surgery anytime, but here in Canada I have to see if I am eligible for it. Thank you for all the info.

Is the revision strictly for weight loss? Because, honestly, the weight loss stats for RNY and VSG are very similar, and you may not lose much more.

A revision to DS is an easier surgery and would enable you to lose much more. Revision from VSG to DS is fairly easy. Revision from RNY to DS is very complicated, and very dangerous.

6'3" tall, male.

Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.
