When do we start losing weight?

Day 5 post op here.  Still higher weight than day of surgery and the scale hasn't moved at all since I got home on Friday.    I'm assuming it's water weight from the IV fluids and I'm continuing to stay hydrated but dang it's super depressing to go through this and be in pain and it seems like everyone else is dropping weight right away.

I told myself Friday that I wouldn't weigh myself for a few days, so I waited... but today I thought for sure I'd see some progress.

And I wonder if the malabsorption has anything to do with me being so weepy?  Is my antidepressant not getting fully absorbed, I wonder?  Don't mind me crying over here in the corner.  I know in my head things will get better, I'm just not feeling it.

Hang in there! As you stated, you are most likely still holding the IV fluids. Stick to your plan and you'll do great.

It will happen!  Your body has had a shock with anesthesia and the surgery. With all the worry and anticipation, your emotions have been dragged thru it too.  Everything you are going thru is normal...

I was 9 days post op before I got back down to my surgery weight, you're not alone. Pre surgery I weighed myself everyday but post op I had to step away from the scale a bit because it was messing with my head. Recently I've been starting to get back to weighing everyday because I think seeing the fluctuations is better for me than just once a week but to each their own. I can't speak on the antidepressants but I can tell you that the past few months have been very emotional for me so you're not alone there either. Just put in the work and you'll get there. Good luck!

Ditto to what everyone else said. Hang in there, it takes time to get rid of everything from surgery.

My surgeon made me promise that I wouldn't weigh myself for 2 weeks post op. As far as psych meds, are you on extended release version? I had to change to immediate release and take it twice a day, instead of once. It is also common to have mood swings following surgery as well as a period of buyer's remorse.  You will be ok, your body is going through alot right now.

It took me a week to get back down to my surgery morning weight. Do your part, and you'll do fine.

Yep, they pump you full of fluids. It'll come. Do check into your meds, make sure you are on something appropriate for your new tummy. I did have a good amount of teary, emotional stuff the first three or four months. Your body is going through a lot in the beginning.

Make sure to get in all your water to flush out the extra fluid from surgery. It will also flush the anesthetic. You should feel a lot better in a few days. Hang in there and let us know how you're progressing.

Ditto what everyone else has said. This works, you just need to give it time. If you haven't already do a search for all the posts regarding weight loss in the first month AND be sure and read about the 3 week/6 week stalls you get to look forward to dealing with. This WILL work just continue to sip, walk and rest and the pounds will start disappearing. Reading past threads should help you realize we all go through this and you will survive and become a healthier you!
