Hi guys,

Tuesday will be 2 weeks post op and I get to start transitioning into puréed/ soft foods. I saved a lot of the recipe and food ideas for this stage on the post a week or so back by NightMER. As I go shopping this weekend and pick up the things I need I am wonder what you all find is the best (high protein, low fat, no sugar) yogurt? Also I think I saw someone posting that they made their own and I'd love to learn how to do that as well and about what the benefits of that are?

Thank you in advance for your tips and knowledge sharing! This Forum is so great at supporting each other and knowledge sharing!

I make a pot of it every weekend, but I also have storebought on hand as well. I usually eat Dannon Light & Fit for snacks since it's only 80 calories. For meals, I eat Triple Zero a lot (when I don't have any homemade ready to go). I also eat Chobani sometimes (although that's kind of high in sugar, as I recall (not as important to me now since I'm in maintenance)).

there are a lot of yogurt recipes online (they're all pretty much the same - heat the milk to 180-ish, cool to 110-ish, add starter, then incubate for around eight hours). I use 2% milk to make mine (I've read to use either whole or 2% because milk with lower amounts of fat don't set up well - commercial yogurt makers use gelatins or other additives to set up lower-fat milks). The main benefits for me as I can flavor it however I want, and it's way cheaper than store bought yogurt. Also, no additives or preservatives, if those concern you...

Where do you get the starter? Is there a certain kind? Thank you for the instructions!

I use plain Fage as my original starter. After that I use some of my previous batch as the starter, but it weakens after three or four generations, so then I go back and use fage as my starter again. Rinse and repeat. Some people use powdered starters and you can supposedly get more generations out of them, but I've never tried those

Just finished breakfast and had my Fage 0% fat plain Greek yogurt. The numbers can only be beat by homemade. 100 cal 7carb/sugars (from the milk) and 18g protein. I add 1 sweet n low and occasionally a blast of sf syrups ( but not often). I love the stuff.

Walmart makes a plain, whole milk yogurt found in a large tub size. (key words are PLAIN and WHOLE MILK) This yogurt has no artificial anything, no fillers and easy to add your own flavorings, nuts, or crunchies. I highly recommend trying this yogurt.

This Greek yogurt per serving has 190 calories, 9 grams sugar, 20 grams protein. It is sold in a 32 ounce container for about $3.78. The words "WHOLE MILK" are displayed in a red-colored block on the top and side of the container easy to overlook.

I just switched from dannon oikos Greek yogurt (i only eat the vanilla flavor- and add fruit to it) to Yopliant Greek 100. The oikos runs higher in sugar- so I dropped it.

Lately I have been really enjoying the Siggi's yogurt. I find it at Target. Seems to be lower sugar and higher protein than others. I am talking about plain here, would much rather flavor it myself. It has 28g of protein and 5g of sugar in a cup. It is 0% fat, which I am not crazy about, prefer whole milk which they make, but can't seem to find...but it is amazingly delicious.

I also do homemade...but living alone, I just don't go through it fast enough.

What do you use for flavorings? I love Siggi's and the general style of yogurt but I haven't even looked at them since surgery because I figured on pretty high sugar. I hadn't considered flavoring myself though!
