Hair loss - how long?

So I am at that stage where my hair is jumping ship, so to speak. I am not terribly freaked out, I figured this was coming. I cut my hair short so it would be less noticeable when it happened.

But, my question is, how long before it stops falling out and starts to grow back?

Good question - I had my RNY in September 2016. I hope it stops soon!

I had surgery in late October. Months 3 and 4 were pretty bad, but the hair loss has really slowed down after that. I have tons of short hairs around my face that are growing back in. Everyone is different, but that's my experience. Good luck!

This started for me about month 2-3 and didn't end until month 6-7. I lost about 3/4 of my hair ( thank god I had the longest, thickest, curliest hair of anyone I have ever known) and thought it would never end. I tried all the hair vitamin products on the market ...all for not.. still lost my hair. I will say I got the Nioxin shampoo and conditioner and that really seemed to help with slowing it and with regrowth. I also started using a leave in conditioner that helped keep it smooth! I'm 9 months post op today and its been weeks since I lost hair. So I guess there really is always light at the end of the tunnel! lol

Telogen effluvium starts in Month 3 and ends by Month 9. There is no shampoo or supplement that will help with that. Vitamins and protein will give a good base for healthy regrowth. Keeping the scalp in an acidic condition will give a good foundation for new growth. A vinegar rinse will accomplish that.

Hair loss after month 9 can be helped by Nioxin.

Oh I am not worried about 'if' regrowth. Was just curious about when. There is some good research showing that topically applied caffeine is good at stimulating growth (in currently growing hair) I have some shampoo and conditioner with that in it (but no idea how much..)

Months 3-8 were the worst of it for me...I had clumps and clumps of hair falling out during every shower. You'd never know it now. It came back thicker and more out of control than before.

I'm nearing month 7 and it's still falling by the handful. But I have crazy thick hair, so no one would actually notice. Well, except for all the hair I leave everywhere I go.... my new vain fear is that I'm worried it'll all grow back grey... hahaha

Mine was super bad at month 3, 6 and was still going strong up until just before month 9. My brush would always be full and I had to try to style it so my scalp wouldn't show too much. It was bad. I'm now just past month 10 and I have lots of 2 inch long hairs throughout. Around my forehead hairline a lot. I actually use a little spray to tame them otherwise they stick straight up like a baby lion mane!

Good luck and you should notice some slow down of loss and nice regrow around month 9/10.
