I had RNY yesterday and everything went well. My biggest issue is peeing and gas. I feel like I have to force the pee out. Then I get naseus from pushing. Nurses say this is normal. Also gas hurts but I can't seem to pu**** out. how do I handle that?

If you are not already, walk as much as you can and sip the water constantly (don't gulp)

both will help to release the gas. once they give you permission to have yogurt get some triple zero greek or light and fit or carbmaster. It will help also with gas.

if you are nauseus as for some meds for that.

good luck

The issue with going pee is probably because of your catheter. They put mine in after I was asleep and took it out before I woke up. I had issue going pee until the next day.

I didn't have a catheter. I can get a lot out but not all and then I have to get up again to get more.

The pee thing is an after effect from the anasthesia. Your bladder is basically a bit paralyzed. I had to get a catheter put in which was not fun at all. I couldn't get anything out. I walked and squeezed and listened to running water. They have this mini ultrasound that measures the liquid in your bladder. I was at capacity so it had to be done .

but if you're passing some liquid that's a good sign. Try and take it easy on the pain meds if you can tolerate it. Like if they're giving you dilaudid see if you can handle just 1 mg instead of 2

I'm assuming you're a male?

Oh well I believe a catheter (They call it a Foley) isn't as big an issue for the fairer sex. I had mine for about 24 hours. The insertion was brutal

Anyway it's pretty normal.

Just hold your hand under cold running water while trying to go. Works best with water hitting your wrist.
