Hello I have been out of the hospital for two days and am four days post op. I feel pretty good except that occasional feeling of air getting trapped in my esphogus while sipping on my fluids. Is that normal?

I recall not being able to drink more than one gulp of liquid before my body said "no more!" It'll get better. You're like a new born baby at this point.

I am having surgery on Tuesday and that's how I've been thinking about how eating is going to be after I get home. In Winnipeg, we don't do the Optifast, but rather a Diabetic Boost Diet of five bottles a day and plenty of water. There is a progression to eating. Babies start with just liquid, gradually baby cereal, then baby food (puree) and then a little chunky. After that is all tolerated, then you can try a little more lumpy stuff. We are re-training ourselves to eat because our stomachs are so small.

I'm just over 2 weeks out and I had the same the same problem for the first week. I found it was better when drinking hot liquids. Take small sips and it will pass in a few days.

I am 3 days post op and I am burping constantly, so that may be normal. Also, I feel really gassy, but haven't passed anything yet. But the burping is helping me with drinking my liquids, so I guess burping will be my thing for a while.

Yeah, I have been burping with no problem. I can contest that walking does help with the gas. Here at five days post op. I felt so much better once I started passing gas. Keep walking and those gases will move in out.

I still get this issue. I found that when ever I eat/drink and my body is trying to process the food/drink that it pushes air back up when it's working the food down. So I always feel like I need to burp or have air bubbles stuck right by my sternum.
