10.5 weeks post op & lots of ?'s

I Came home from work today exhausted. Yesterday too. When will this fatigue end?

I Had a stir fry with veggies and salad today. I think I ate too fast and it came back up. When will this end?

i had a coworker ask me : "You look great. Did you do something?" Wow. I kept it a secret at work. I don't feel like it's anyone's business. Will questions keep coming? Oh well if they do!

I have to admit that the attention at work was kind of uncomfortable and I wore a baggy cardigan to work today as a result. Did anyone else feel this way?

I've gone from 270 to 228 (-42 lbs) in 10.5 weeks since surgery. When does this rapid weight loss begin to slow? Fearful of this

i am hoping to hear from a wide variety of experiences.

thanks :)

Stir fry and a salad is a a lot of veggies combined your stomach is telling you it's not ready for yet. I'd suggest introducing one veggie at a time to see what you can tolerate. Also, stir fried can be based ina sugary sauce, so be careful of that too.

Some will ask, some won't. Just say thanks- I'm working on my health, and change the topic.

Attention didn't make me feel uncomfortable, definitely not to the point I'd jeopardize my fashion sense as a result, but it does get old. At this point my weight has been stable over a year and people carry on that I'm still losing. Nope. Makes me question their assessment altogether.

Rapid weight loss slowing varies, especially depending on compliance. By ~8 months out I was no longer losing double digits... but lost steadily until maybe 18 months out.

Awesome detailed response- thank you. I like your advice and I have to agree that it was probably too many veggies!

Your stomach is DEFINITELY not ready for crunchy veggies yet. And honestly, you shouldn't really be going veggie-heavy right now; your diet should be almost exclusively protein. Insufficient protein can absolutely cause fatigue!

Are you taking your vitamins? Drinking enough water? Dehydration and deficiencies can also leave you tired.

A lot of us feel really awkward and self-conscious as we get smaller, this is absolutely common. You're going through a big change, and it really can be a mental shock!

If you feel the need to respond to people, you can use a generic response. If you don't feel comfortable saying you had surgery, you can use a line like, "I've been working really hard on my health" and omit the details. That's usually enough for people (who mean well) to be satisfied.

Your loss should be slowing down to a couple of pounds per week soon, if it hadn't yet. Nobody here has shrunk away to nothing yet! Work as hard as you can while the loss is easy, because it's going to slow waaaaaaaay down and you'll miss these days!

Btw I've been taking all my vitamins but the iron. I hate the taste and the constipation- I know.... bad, bad, bad!

water hasn't been perfect either. I'm working on it :)

What kind of iron are you taking? Carbonyl iron tends to be gentler on the system and give less digestive trouble. You can also take a stool softener or fiber pill with it-- that's what I do, as recommended by my hematologist.

You can also get vitamins in patch form, including iron. They work for some people and not others, but seem to cause no digestive issues and you don't have to taste anything!

Thanks. I don't know iron can come in patch form. I'm taking Feramax the hem stuff. It tastes like dried blood because I open up the capsule.

Why are you opening the capsule? Taking your supplements is not negotiable, especially iron. At this stage you should be more than capable of swallowing pills and capsules.

Hey Kim,

sorry to hijack the OP message but just wanted you to know what my Centre said about Feramax. After my ferritin tanked to 4 I had one of the NPs say to me "well RNY patients don't break down the capsule that the feramax iron comes in so you will have to open the capsule and put it in a drink." Told her no way. I switched to Proferrin at that point (and got iron infusions). Who knows if in fact my centre is correct but I avoid capsules now just in case.

So now whenever I get prescribed a medication I make sure its not a capsule it has to be a tablet or liquid.
