Dr was serious about bite size!

Even when we are allowed to eat things by our surgeon's protocol doesn't mean it will agree with us personally.

I had no problem with steak from the beginning but give me tuna and I felt like a cat hacking up a hairball. Tuna was allowed but it didn't matter if I couldn't handle it.

To this day I am iffy on cold cuts, I can eat them but it rarely feels good.

You did well by feeling it out and going to smaller bites. My office cleared me for soft foods including ground beef, chicken, and pork, after less than one week. I was so excited to have tuna salad! Then I had the tuna salad! Then I thought I was dying!

At one week out I had little nerve function in my tummy so I wasn't getting the feedback I needed to know what was going on until it was too late. On the upside, I did follow their (wide) guild lines, focusing on the portion size and chewing etc. There were few foods I couldn't eat once I'd tried them in small amounts a few times. I never vomited until I was about 8 months out, even then it wasn't so much a food issue as a car sickness issue. The Center of Excellence where I had my surgery was working to get bulkier, heartier, protein into their patients earlier than the more conservative, traditional, food plans, in an attempt to enhance healing and improve energy levels. In my case it was great as I was able to comfortably return to work the week following my surgery. Obviously my "sample of one" is nothing more than a data point and not something one could assume is indicative of the success of this faster rush to proteins than is standard practice. The nutritionist would be anxious to add that the recommendations were to try small portions of soft protein after your one week follow-up and incorporate them into your diet as tolerated.

Frozen foods STILL don?t work for me 8 years post op. I almost always cant reheat meat dishes i made for instance unless they?re very simple and digestible . like fat free vegetable lasagna with a bit of low-fat homemade meat sauce .

I couldn?t begin to eat pork or beef until like 4 months post op and i was under strict instructions not to try to eat meat at all before then . Tuna also like for most made me puke - probably the fishy taste combined with full fat mayonnaise . Gross!

(((()))) good luck

I can so relate to the reheating. I have given up on trying to reheat rather than throw away good food. Raised by children of the depression era.

Had to toss grilled salmon meal. Couldn't choke it down.
