I ate too much!

I'm 2+ weeks out from surgery, and my surgeon just gave me the ok to move to soft foods. I was so excited to eat actual food that I overdid it! Nothing bad for me (veggies and ground chicken), but I ate too much. I am in so much pain right now! I am trying to avoid throwing up, but the pain is almost unbearable. I promise I will never overeat again!!

Eating too much, too fast, or the wrong thing will bite you on the was for at least the next several months.

Stay away from veggies. They aren't doing anything for you. Protein, poritei, protein. Soft, moist, and well chewed. And weighed, measured, and logged, to avoid overeating!

I am 3 weeks out and I just want liquids! So much easier to handle. I hurt my tummy on chicken and vegetable strained and put through a blender. My nutritionist said I could take my time so right now I am up to one soft food meal per day and then I will make it two. Hang in there.

That's a great idea! I'm going to stick with mostly liquid and one soft food meal...until I get used to food. Thanks!!

Make sure you are measuring your portions. I was eating pureed food out of medicine cups (think Nyquil cups) at two weeks out. Two medicine cups per meal. You could do serious damage to your pouch by over eating.

Eating until we feel full is how we became obese. Advice for the future: Never eat until you feel full. Measure your food and then stop eating... even if your lying liar of a stomach tells you that you have room for one more bite.

How are you feeling now? Did you try walking it off and taking deep breaths?

Yes, feeling much better. I forced myself to take the dog and walk around the neighborhood. The walking really helped! Thanks!

Ditto what everyone else said. Small portions, small bites, chew forever. Stick to protein and don't do what I did (popcorn at week 2). This may sound gross, but I've had that "too much, too fast" feeling 3 times since surgery (Dec 19) and it felt so good just to let it come back up. Not everyone is like that, but it helped me. Good luck!
