It's my 4 th year out now since I had RNY and I go to St Vincents Hospital in Carmel Indiana every year to see the Dietition and the Practitioner to my Surgeon. I wanted know if anyone goes too, mine is 3 hours away. If I don't go they will not order blood wor****il I go there. When I go I see Dietition and talk for 15 minutes in and out, then go see Practitioner for 15 minutes and done. I wish we could video chat for Appointment. It seems like so far to go for half hour.

You can have your primary care doc order all of your bloodwork. There's no reason to see a surgeon unless you have a surgical issue.

I do. But that because of my issues with hernias.

The center I went to for my RNY is alined with a center for people with hernias. I had a few hernias surgeries done by the same person who did my RNY . I now have external hernias again and I tried to see a hernia specialist- only to be referred to surgeon who is in the same clinic as my RNY surgeon was. I was told that center is the best to take care of people like me (post-op RNY). There is no escaping for me. I am almost 10 years post op RNY

My surgeon does follow ups for life (well until he retires I guess?) but it's also right here, a 10 minute drive so I didn't think much of it. Your primary should be able to order the blood work

I have a yearly checkup with my surgeon. I was told I'd need to be seen once a year for the rest of my life for blood work and just to make sure I'm doing well. I get my blood work done through them every year unless I feel like I need to have it done sooner, then I'll do it through my PCP because I've always done it that way.

If I'm having a medical problem I think may be related to my surgery, I'll make an appointment with my surgeon. ( hernia, ulcer, possible gut problems, etc. )

The practice I go to encourages their post-ops to attend post op support groups for life, and to reach out if/when help is needed. I have always really liked that about them, even though I no longer utilize the support groups as they seem more geared toward recent post ops.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

I am actually seeing my surgeon tomorrow. I have had some pain near my belly button again.

I also like going back since it really keeps my head on straight. I do like his staff also. A lot of them have had the surgery so it is good to see them once a year.

I have a great PCP but if my doctor was three hours away I do not think I would go back.

Mine is only a hour away. It is near my husband's office so I usually have to make a day of it. Plus Trader Joes is there also.

I do. I'll be 4 years out in May/2 years out from my revision to RNY in July. Given the issues I've had, I see my surgeon every 6 months. If I didn't have issues, I would see him once a year. However, my PCP is totally on board and actually orders more labs than my surgeon's office.

I wish my PCP would be on top of things I have intern Doctors that come and go every 3 years and move on to a Doctor Practice. I have never been lucky to get a Doctor that knows much on Bariatric Surgery and are not required to.

I had my RNY 8 years ago at St. Vincents in Carmel. My annual appointment is March 26. It is a 2 1/2 hour drive for me. I always visit with dietitian, too.

I've had some issues with nausea, bowel obstruction, cervical spine surgery (where I couldn't swallow whole food for 2 months). I've been able to email or talk with the dietitians over the phone and it has been really helpful.

Unfortunately my bariatric surgeon (Caccuci) has performed surgery for a bowel obstruction in 2016 and I've also driven to Indianapolis to have endoscopy done at St. Vincent's. Not to mention I get supplies at the little Women's Boutique (they also mail with no shipping charge - a bonus.)

I will keep going to my bariatric surgeon and dietitians because I never know that I might need in the future and I find that they are very caring and prompt. They are also more aware of any supplements I might need adjusted. I just don't trust my GP to know what's best for RNY patients.

Just my 2 cents.
