I had my 1 month post-op appointment

I lost 21 pounds since I had surgery a month ago. My surgeon gave me the impression that he would have liked me to have lost more, but I was thrilled with the 21 pound weight loss in a month. I asked if the fact that I lost over 60 pounds before surgery could affect how much I lose in the beginning and he admitted that it definitely could affect the weight loss.

He also told me that he wants me to progress my diet to include some vegetables. I am barely able to get my 60 grams of protein in a day, but I will try to add vegetables. What veggies are easiest to digest?

My program recommends canned non-starchy veggies since they are generally soft. Green beans were the favorite, and they also like over-steamed broccoli, spinach, and cauliflower, but I know broccoli causes gas for many.

Personally don't worry about the veggies right now. Just concentrate on your protein, water, and vitamins. I didn't have any type of vegetable until almost 6 months out.

You're doing good.

everybody is different and this journey should definitely be considered a marathon and not a sprint.

I used to make ratatouille which is soft, tasty and sorta lo cal/ almost zero carbs but I wouldn't add veggies if it means less protein. A one month old pouch can't hold much food!

Congratulations sounds like you're doing great to me, I'm concerned about having to add veggies as I've never liked mushy veggies, maybe mashed cauliflower might be good you could make a shepherds pie type meal.

I think your doctor is an asshole.

You lost 21 pounds. In a month. Have you done that much?

You will lose more weight this year than you ever have or will again. It's about losing it and getting to goal.

It's not about how much you lost this month. I conclude that your doctor is shaming you.

Congrats. Hang on. Post often. Eat protein.

He pointed out that most people lose between 15-25% and I was at 15.7%. He wants me to be at 50% by 6 months. I pointed out nicely that I lost 68 pounds since July before my surgery..

Congrats on your surgery and on the 60 pre op and 21 post op loss! That is awesome!

Your doc is a jerk! Losing 21 lbs since surgery is amazing! Where has anyone of us lost 21 lbs that quickly. He is being harsh.

Veggies are the least of your worries right now. Stick to getting in your protein and keeping well hydrated. If you do choose to add in some veggies go for low carb. Califlower, broccoli, mixed salad greens, asparagus, zucchini, bell pepper. I didn't add in veggies until I was close to six months post op. I was trying to just get in my protein and had no other room in my pouch for anything else.

Welcome, stick around here, ask more questions and join the menu thread if you want.

Best of luck.

Wow, 21 lbs, yay you! Don't let anyone make this a shame game. I'm 3 weeks out, and thinking I can barely eat, but I do anyway, because I don't want this to be starvation diet but a healthy one. Between taking meds and fluids, I haven't lost that much.. I guess some veggies would be good, but at this point, all real food is starting to sound good to me, lol. Keep up the great work, stay positive and try not to let people, compare you, not even Dr's
