Chewable vitamins for how long?

Hello,

Surgery on the horizon and I'm starting to plan what I'll need on hand for success, particularly those first weeks/months. One of the things I've been reviewing/researching is vitamins. Quality/quantity price...

Can those of you with experience tell me when (approximately) we can transition from chewables to pill form vitamins?

Thank you.

Depends on where you're having your surgery, I was told 4 - 6 weeks out, but some programs don't even have chewables as part of the program.

Some people continue with the chewable calcium D combo for years as they don't taste too bad.

I never had to take chewable vitamins. My surgeon had me swallowing whole pills while still in the hospital. He told me to just take them one at a time with a little time between pills.

I don't know what was recommended but it took me 3-4 months to be able to swallow my vitamins. Pills I could do within a few weeks/ but vitamins took me a lot longer.

I can certainly understand that. I have a hormone pill I take for my thyroid, it's tiny and I'm confident I'll be able to take that without issue. The vitamins on the otherhand, those mulitples are big in comparission! I joke that once I have the surgery between the hydration and the vitamins I'll be stuffed. :)

I still take chewable Centrum Silver (or the generic equivalent) at almost 3 years out, but just because I like them. It's sort of like eating a SweetTart. I could have given them up long ago, though. Except for ursodiol and those horse-pill-sized calcium citrate tablets, I was swallowing pills as soon as I got home from the hospital (I had to wait a couple weeks on the ursodiol & calcium tabs)

Thank you for your insight. I really appreciate it.

Cost will play a factor in my decision down the line. This is a lifetime cost/commitment. The chewables I have right now, just the multi alone is about $22 for a one month supply, but I can get a non-chewable 2 month suppy for about $9 that meets or exceeds the requirements I've been given. Over a lifetime that's a big savingss.

$22 is pretty expensive. If you want to stay with a chewable for awhile, the generic Centrum ones are pretty cheap. They're maybe $8 at CVS, and they go on sale all the time - at least once a month. BOGO or buy one get the second at half price. Although you're right, non-chewables are even cheaper.

Centrum (or the generic equivalent) is a good multi. Lots of us on here take those.
