Think Twice Get the Sleeve

With a lap band removed 2 weeks ago which was in for 10 years and dropped recalls out on those.

Researching over the past 6 months, I decided with the sleeve, less complications that you will have after 10 years.

I had Dr. Mark Pleatman ..www.drpleatman.com (Michigan)remove the band and do the sleeve. This doctor does 4 to 6 sleeves per week and teaches doctors to do sleeves he will recommend this instead of the bypass, his reasons are straight forward. Ask yourself how many surgeries on this does your doctor do per week or year. So many doctors are in it for the money not for helping people like Dr. Pleatman

From Canada yes I paid out of my pocket and well worth it. In my orientation there was patients from Ohio, Las Vegas, Chicago and Indiana so that must tell you something if people are coming all this way to Michigan WOW.

The hospital is like a 5 star hotel, your own room, bathroom excellent. And no pain, home the next day with no pain meds. The office is top notch for your assistance.

What's a phone call give the office a call explain your situation.

Thanks Mike

Speaking for myself, after 10 years with the crap-band and the chronic reflux it caused, I was not a candidate for the sleeve. I had bypass. My only regret is that I should have chosen it first.

Did you have your removal and RNY at the same time? I am waiting on insurance approval , I hate this lap band !

There was so much damage it couldn't be done at the same time. I waited 3 years in between to be mentally and emotionally ready. The doc warned me but ...

Good luck!

I'm glad youre happy so far. But 2 weeks is way too soon to be declaring victory.

Where do you figure there are fewer complications? Every day we see people on here revising from sleeve to bypass because of complications. Come back in a couple of years and tell us about how wonderful and complication free you are.

It sounds like you're getting kickbacks for every review you post for this doctor's practice. Call me pessimistic, but the more you say you are, for or about something, you likely are not or are otherwise uninformed.

I was a sleeve candidate right up until I had my endoscopy done. No hiatal hernia so bypass it was. End of story.

Dr Pleatman should be paying OH for his advertising.

I'm almost 14 years out, come tell me what you know in, say, 10 years?

The sleeve might be a good fit for some. My surgeon does both and the sleeve was not an option for me. If you have diabetes, gastric bypass is the only option in my surgeon's mind. More dangerous? I do not think so. My surgeon does 6-8 every week of one or the other. Highly respected university medical center.

Glad you are happy with yours but maybe let people decide with their surgeon what is best for them.

I was considering a sleeve. Then I got my endoscopy results, and they revealed I had severe Barrett's Esophagus. Embrace the possibility of further GERD problems with the sleeve? NOPE. RNY it was, and I regret nothing.
