Unable to eat much when stressed

I have heard of Lap Band patients having difficulty with eating when stressed but I have noticed this more and more in recent years. I am 15 years out RNY. I retired in 2016 and I started to ready our home to sell. It has been a long process. I have most of the house packed except what me and my husband need to live with while still here. We just sold our house and it was a whirlwind of activity from open house to 1st offer (4hrs and the buyer offered $18,000 over asking price with no contingencies).

Back to my question. Do any of you find that you can only eat a few small bites of food when stressed and cannot eat anymore; even when you are hungry? I can only eat a little and then if I try to eat anymore I cannot eat anything.

I am interested to hear other member's input.

THX!

I have a sleeve but I do find that when I am Stresses/upset my sleeve shrinks and I can eat very little.

A lot of people can't eat when stressed. It isn't only those who've had some type of WLS. I don't think it's necessarily even more prevalent in WLS peeps.

It seems to be a natural reaction for a good portion of the population actually.

it was the opposite for me pre op.

The more stressed I was ,the more I wanted to eat and could eat.

post op,sometimes I still want to eat when stressed but my sleeve just will not allow me to, literally.

me too actually. I always hated people who lost weight when they were stressed. I consistently gained.

It's random now for me postop but I feel like it's just as random in the general population.

Thanks everyone. I never noticed this at five or more years out. I have only noticed this more in the last 5+ years. I also was the opposite pre op and stress made it easy for overeating/binge eating. I am dealing with it especially during this move.

Congratulations Christine on your retirement and selling of the house. When I sold our home in IL in 2013 the stress was unbelievable as I had to do everything. I remember when trying to eat it was weird, there were times I felt like someone had a hold of my throat and was squeezing it tight to where I gagged. Then there were other times when I found myself back to stress eating. Eating everything in sight.

See if you can get the protein down with shakes to keep you healthy until you get to your new home and settled. This is the beginning of a new chapter for you and your DH. Enjoy and cherish each other everyday

Thanks Kathy, tomorrow is the home inspection and I really feel at peace about it. Hopefully we will only be dinged by little things and not a big ticket item like a roof. We had it inspected back after a micro burst in later July '17 and was told it was in good shape. The inside painting cost an arm and leg because we had a lot of wall paper that had to come down.

Sounds like you have it ready to go! Good luck with your inspection. You should live out here in CA, these people are nuts. They end up in a price war out bidding each other for a house that needs tons of work and they don't ask the seller to fix anything. LOL

Keep us posted on how you are doing If this continues give your doctor a call.
