So on Monday September 17 I had my surgery. I already have completely normal sugar levels and I'm not getting the shakes cause it's low (first time in years). Monday and Tuesday were extremely difficult, so much pain. I didn't pass gas so I know that contributed to the pain and I did walk but not much because I was in so much pain. I'm getting different directions on what to do for food tomorrow once I'm home. Can anyone tell me what they were told to do?

Congrats on surgery!! I walked A LOT and that helped tremendously with the gas pain.

I was on a full liquid diet for 2 weeks after surgery; sugar free and low fat.

Your dietitian should have information for your post surgery diet so I'd confirm with him/her.

Good luck to you!!

I haven't been able to release much gas but once I'm out of here I'm going to walk for at least 10-15 mins see if I can get this gas out. Thank you!!!

Make sure you get up and walk every half hour to hour when you are awake, while also getting your liquids in. I set a timer so i'd Get up and walk. It helps with getting the gas out, plus important for preventing blood clots

ive been walking as much as I can. the gas is finally starting to come out but not too much and I mentioned a ball at the top of my stomach last night which has went away but now I have a rash on both sides of my stomach. I dont know what couldve caused that and Im nervous it has to do with surgery. I'm calling my surgeon today.

Walk/sip and rest like it's your job right- well it kind of is your job!! Each center has their own set of guidelines based on you and their program so your best bet is of course to check with them before you are discharged. I think I was on liquids for a few days and then switched to full liquids for a week but I don't remember exactly. Best of luck to you and I hope you have a smooth recovery.

Thank you.... they just told me to do exactly what was being given to me at the hospital until Tuesday when I go see the surgeon again.

The most important thing is to get in your fluids at this point.

Did your doctor give you pain pills? Don't be afraid to take them, they will make life quite a bit easier.

As far as food, every surgeon has slightly different plans on what you should be eating. But at this point, you are almost certainly still on liquids. I imagine you will be doing a lot of protein shakes!

Dehydration is a very serious risk, so you'll want to make sure to have lots of zero-calorie beverages on hand. Sugar-free lemonade, tea, broth, Crystal Light, and the like will be handy. You can also have sugar-free popsicles.

if been taking my pain killers but not every four hours. I can wait longer between dosage so I do. As for fluids ive been taking in lots of it. I drink crystal light but they said no protein shakes. I have some of the protein that was given at the hospital that I add to my chicken broth (not good at all) because thats what the nutritionist told me to do.
