7months Post Op - Discomfort when Eating

Okay, looking for some opinions/help.

I am 7 months post op. Over 90lbs down and have had a pretty by the book post op experience. At 6 months my prescription antacid that they recommended was finished, but they told me to keep an eye as I may need to add it back.

Soon after I got hit with back to back colds (good old September) So I've been feeling a bit off all around, but in the last week I've noticed foods that didn't use to make me uncomfortable have started to. And then it became pretty much everything - water included.

It's not pain, but its a discomfort that can be intense. If I walk around and take large breaks it then settles and I can finish eating. But its making something that used to be normal quite the effort. (The water is the real killer as I'm finding I'm not drinking enough to avoid the feeling)

I spoke to the clinic and for now they recommended an over the counter acid reducer. its only been 24 hours, so i'm not surprised I haven't seen any results.

i have an appt with my md in 4 weeks (shes on vacation - of course lol)

Has anyone else had an experience similar? It doesn't seem to match the symptoms of a stricture. If I press into my stomach when not eating I can feel the same discomfort. Same if I stretch my torso, or lay on my stomach. I think it may be acid like the clinic says? But now that I have a long wait to see my doctor just want some first hand opinions.

It's really unlikely to be a stricture this far out. They almost always happen within the first three months. I had something somewhat similar and they did a workup - tested for gall bladder, pancreas, liver issues and ulcer. Everything checked out fine, so i just started taking antacids again....

Thank you. I'm pretty sure that's all it is. It's always just a little nerve wreaking when something changes.

If the acid reducer works, that could be it. A stricture is always possible, but unlikely at this point. It could be an ulcer, or jyst a stomach bug.

Take one step at a time, and don't get ahead of yourself.

Sounds like my experience when acid is bad, even water hurts.

I would get an ultrasound of my gall bladder to rule out gallstones. I would also ask the clinic to scope you to rule out ulcers. Hope you feel better!

Just wanted to thank you all for your replies.

After a few days the otc acid reducers seemed to settle everything down. I still have my appointment with my MD in a few weeks where we can figure out the future plans as well as possible testing.
