So Frustrated!

I was so excited to get my RNY surgery (Jan. 22, 2019), but for the past week or so nothing wants to stay down, not even plain water. Before surgery I was a water lover... guzzled the stuff (even as a kid I loved water). To go from that to now after surgery 4 sips and I'm queasy or nauseous... then the foaming and puking globs of mucous or spitting... I'm irritated. So of course, with that my meds are not affective (if I can get them in). My protein intake is not good (last night puked up tuna). Going back to the previous food stage isn't much relief since protein shakes are not sitting well either. I'll be going back to the doctor. Something's gotta give. Non-fat Greek yogurt with unsweetened apple sauce has been my only solace (but only 4 spoonfuls). My goodness I just want to drink some water. That's all.

I definitely feel your frustration. Learning what works and what doesn't in your new pouch is a definite learning curve. My advice in regard to hydration is to try warm/hot (calorie free) beverages. Hot Herbal tea was my LIFE for the first month or so, and ginger and peppermint varieties are known to be soothing for nausea.

Baby sips, and baby bites of the food (the size of a pencil eraser), wait at least 30 seconds before taking the next bite.

Tuna can be kind of dry for a lot of people and mayonnaise not always the friendliest option for a new pouch to moisten it (mayo upset my stomach early on) When I was 2 weeks out I was still not eating very much meat--I was eating Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, very soft scrambled eggs, and EggFace's Ricotta Bake (hopefully someone can link you, I'm on my phone at the moment). I could also do white, flaky fish like tilapia, well mashed with a fork.

Eggs were a no go last week. Won't try them again til summer lol.

I'm currently at the doctor's office now getting IV fluids. 2 bags! I hope this helps, I'm tired of puking, foaming / spitting.

Calorie free / sugar free beverages are all I drink. It doesn't matter if it's hot, cold or somewhere inbetween..... some or most of it comes up anyway. Like now... I made some sugar free grape kool-aid... never really cared for this flavor before surgery but had to have it today. I used sucralose sweetner (yellow packets) but still left it a bit on the tart side. It's somewhat staying down. Im tired of all these sweet drinks and as previously stated, plain water doesn't stay down much either. I never vomit all of what I've ingested, but this daily vomiting/ foaming / spitting is annoying.

My list for Soft foods (anything that you can mash with a fork) includes:

Chicken (boiled it, that went well during the day... vomited at night). Probably because of the fluids afterward. I always wait well over 30 minutes to drink after eating. Ugh!

Eggs (felt horrible that whole day until I puked 4 times for all of it to be gone). Told the nurse she said I should've just ate the whites... (wish they'd update their booklet then).

Tuna (a little bit sits well during the day, anything I drink hours later makes me feel ill then of course the tuna comes up too).

Canned vegetables / fruits, banana, cottage cheese, fish, deli meat (bought them, but haven't tried any of these items yet).

If you are foaming and spitting up water, you may have a stricture,

You need to call your surgeon - this is NOT normal!

My thoughts exactly, which is why I'm going to see the doctor / surgeon. This puking has been beyond annoying at this point. What a mess!

Tuna is ultraprocessed. Try fresh foods and similars.

I'm going to eventually attempt the foods on my list. Part of me got scared and nervous... I'll get over it though.

I am almost done drinking sugar free grape kool aid from a 34 fl. oz bottle. This is the most I've been able to keep down at a time. I've been working on it over 2 hours.

Right now I have a tilapia filet in the oven baking... minimal salt and pepper on it. I'll sma**** up though before even attempting to eat it.

I took 1 small bite of it and let that be it for now. Will try more in an hour. It sure did taste good. I can't wait for the day that I can eat a normal fork or spoonful of food instead of these teeny tiny bites. LoL. It's just so weird.... then again all of this is new... new lifestyle. Now to work on my fluids again.
