Frustrating...so so frustrating

I found out earlier today that no doctor in my town will take my Medicaid(disability) to fix my back. they are referring me to a pain management clinic with a "rumor" of a neurosurgeon joining the practice that would do it. Now I don't know what kind of rumor that is.

the most frustrating part is my PCP prescribed two things to help. Ibuprofen and Tizanidine. As you know I can't take the first and the second one has a severe reaction to a med I take for my mental health, fluvoxamine. He knows my med list and surgery history. I finally had the pharmacist put nsaids on the allergy list with a footnote.

of course I called and left a message. I'm so upset tonight over this. My bariatric doctor is through Texas tech and I see him on the 9th and I have a copy of my MRI. I'm going to ask him about referring me to the doctors at tech down in Lubbock. The main medical school is here but all neurosurgeons are down there.

just really upset.

I had a doctor look me in the eye and ask, "Can't take NSAIDs or won't take NSAID's?" when I asked for help with pain. I said, "OK, have it your way, I won't take NSAIDs so I need something else". He gave me some tramadol and made me feel like I was on my way to being a crack addict. How far is Lubbock from you?

White Dove,

I told one Physician "I don't have any more guts to loose, most of mine have already been removed. The gastric surgeon who did that work, told me NOT to ever take NSAIDS, ." oh ,.and i had to one time, for about 3 weeks.... ended up in the hospital with a twisted intestine. I was really blessed, they were able to decompress it with low intermittent suction in 5 days.

I finally had a FNP work out me a pain protocol- for chronic pain," itis" brothers. If I must take 200 of motrin/ibuprophen i also take 50 mg of ultram/tramadol to extend the motrin...with Prevacid 30 mg. to protect my pouch... .I can only take it one time a week. and usually do not take it that often. I haven't seen that FNP in 5 years and still have a few tramadol..out of an rx of 50.. Staying warm, using a heating pad, extra sleeves, epsom salts foot baths all go a long way toward relieving chronic pain. Willow Bark is another option..my best dose is 2 capsules for most things.. i can use it 2 x/ wk.. for arthritic type pain without gastric complications. Those allergic to ASA should not take it.

I do like that response of my guts have already been removed. It was an urgent care physician and I had been at his clinic twice that month. First with a back injury and then a fall where I hurt my knee. The knee was so swollen I could not walk without using a walker and I really needed something for the pain.

So I guess he thought I was just there for drugs when I refused to settle for his advice to go home and take Motrin.

Hot baths, heating pads, ice, compression, rest, tylenol, and Biofreeze are pretty much all I use now. I have a bottle of Tylenol for extreme emergencies, but don't like that either due to me having kidney disease.

The only thing I feel comfortable with is the Biofreeze. I have tried every other topical pain reliever and only Biofreeze stops back or leg pain for me.

Melody, if you have not tried Biofreeze, get a can of that and spray it on your back. It was created by a young scientist who wanted to help his grandmother with her arthritis pain and did not want her to have to take NSAIDs. It is what the physical therapy people use when patients are in pain during therapy.

I do have some bio freeze but I'll take your advice and get the spray can! I can't put the gel on by myself, something about the angle hurts my leg a lot.

thank you! My mind is about as sharp as a marshmallow so it doesn't always think logically or soundly.

Lubbock is about 130 miles from here.

i do have some tramadol from my surgeries but it's not helping much :(

Tramadol is best used as an extender for another drug/remedy... by its self...not very effective on bone /nerve pain. If not allergic to aspirin, Look up/ try willow bark capsules to use with it...It is anti inflammatory , and has much less chance of gastric distress. Especially when used infrequently. ..or on an irregular schedule.. willow bark lasts about 4-5 hours,, extended with tramadol about 8, so usually long enough to get me thru a crisis... Tylenol does NOT work at all for me.

Melody P, so sorry you are going thru this... It is a good thing you already have appt set up with the Dr on 9th. You definitely need another Dr.

Any Physicain who ignores your pain, medicine reactions and your medical history needs to be reported to the AMA.

There have been people killed by physicians who did not listen to their patients medical history and acted as if they were God.One of my friends had a medication change done behind their back, even tho had been told it could only be changed by his specialist...had taken a year to stabilize the dose/frequency... and his blood pressure dropped to 60/20. he was blessed, and so was the Dr .He survived..

Thank you!

i am in the habit of checking med reactions and reading the little print out that comes with the prescription. You just can't trust all doctors(or any) to account for things.
