Got the call today! RNY is scheduled for March 5th!!

I have a 10 day pre-op diet. They gave me a list of things I can have, does anyone have any helpful hints or insights? I believe I have to have 5 protein shakes a day and 1/2 cup non-starchy veggies.

Stick to the diet they suggest to a T. Do not in any way cheat for any reason. It only makes it easier for the surgeon and make for a quicker recovery. If you feel deprived (and you will) go for non sugary liquids. Try water enhancers Like mio. If water is not enough I used bouillon cubes too to get me through. It's all uphill after this. I promise 10 days Is a small sacrifice compared to what you will gain in improved health for the rest of your life. Best of luck on your journey.

Congratulations! Isn't it an amazing feeling!?

Do everything you have been instructed to do... everything you do now will help you in recovery. I was on a similar pre-surgical diet bur because insurance was taking their sweet time, they took 5 months to approve things and actually GIVE me clearance. I was on mine for 5 months... lost 50 pounds even before the surgeon made his first incision.

If you start to feel frustrated, take a step in any direction and MOVE... learn healthy ways of coping with frustration without food because, I tell ya, you will head to that fridge out of habit. Put a sign up (big and bright) either on the outside and/or inside that states clearly, what your goals are and you do not need food to attain those goals

Communicate with your loved ones what your goals are and you would love their support in the process. Let them know your boundaries are and that you will be going through a roller coaster of emotions and to not take things personally. You will essentially be detoxing and a little on the edge". If you don't experience any of the frustrations, at least they are prepared

Thank you all for the suggestions! I've been working a lot lately on controlling my food addiction and compulsion to eat sugary/bad foods. I know the liquid diet will be a challenge mentally and am doing my best to prepare myself for this huge change.
