What's on your Wednesday Menu, RNYers?

Hiya Kids, Happy Wednesday! Wow, yesterday was a wild day for me. I was so incredibly and unexpectedly busy. I checked in with my coworkers for a minute and they were also feeling surprised and overwhelmed by how much work is barreling towards us this week!

My phone completely bit the dust yesterday :( I dropped it a week ago and the LCD screen came disconnected so it had some annoying stripes along the screen that was obscuring the text, but I thought I could ride it out for a few weeks. But yesterday the whole screen ghosted and started shaking. So after my marathon work day with no break, I ran to the apple store, bought a new phone, and then voted. Phew. The good news is that I didn't have any time to overeat, lol.

Accountability: Good day but weight is not budging this week. Its been exactly the same for 1.5 weeks. I need to shake it up but I haven't had time to reassess my menu.

QOTD: Have you ever had a bad roommate? I had a terrible Freshman roommate in college. She smoked in our room, bought home sketchy men, and generally was *****y and inconsiderate. The roommate I lived with longest in my 20s is still my best friend and I love her, but JESUS she was messy! We were always at odds about it and even though she is a great friend, I probably would have murdered her if we'd lived together much longer.

Morning. I saw the surgeon yesterday in relation to my hip and received really surprising news. I thought I was going in to address a torn labrum (essentially the same thing as tearing a rotator cuff in the shoulder, but the surgery is generally a lot less recovery/PT). However, they did an extensive series of x-rays and told me I have acetabular retroversion hip dysplasia AND a cam impingement. So basically the sockets of my hip joints are anatomically in the incorrect position over the ball AND the head of my femur is shaped in such a way to cause additional issues. I'm not a candidate for the "easy" surgery and instead the solution is hip preservation surgery that would cut away the socket and re position it properly. This is a pretty massive surgery (eventually x2), but hip dysplasia is the #1 cause of arthritis before age 50 if I don't treat it. Then I could be looking at hip replacements that could wear out. I see a new surgeon about it on Friday. I do feel like at this point I know I can't run for the foreseeable future (and I had a good cry about that yesterday) and that gives me some breathing room to find the best surgeon for me.

QOTD: My first college roommate was pretty terrible. She was a SLOB and I was forever coming back after a weekend at home to find all her **** on my side of our very tiny room. She also would bring home random male friends to sleep on our floor, which make me terribly uncomfortable (and for some reason I didn't yet have my wits about me to tell her to knock it off). Later, my cousin's fiance lived with me for a summer because his father was military and they were restationed and he was waiting to go into boot camp himself. He was also a terrible roommate. He was super critical of everything. Luckily she only stayed married to him for about 18 months before that fell apart, LOL.

My Food:

  • Coffee w/ Cream x2
  • Egg, Cheese, Bacon, English Muffin
  • Jerky, Cheese, Olives
  • Tonight's a "Choose your own adventure night" since Kid #2 has dance. So, I normally just grab something quick like eggs or deli meat and cheese.

Ack! Sorry about the surgery news. Hard decisions. I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in my 40's. I remember the orthopedic being incredulous that I had never been to the doctor for it. I have been told I need knee replacements and still over here kicking....

So hard about the running.

my cousin's daughter (she's around 18, I think) has that exact same issue and just had that surgery a few months ago!

Sorry to hear about the need for extensive surgery,Erin. Take your time and find the best surgeon for you. You can control your weight even when you can't be active. I've had three foot surgeries where I couldn't even bear weight for 6 weeks and managed to stay the same weight. It wasn't easy but it can be done.

Oh, that is not a welcome kind of surprise. Maybe the specialist will have other options or maybe the surgery will give you the running option again?

Hi Erin - I just have to chime in that like the others, I am sorry for that news. It might be a relief to at least know and make a path forward? I am glad you have specialists who are willing to do the work to figure this out rather than just push you into the "easy" surgery. But with how active you are, I know this must be a HUGE downer. I can't imagine how I would feel with this news. Hugs.
