I think your hair looks cute and you are lucky it is long enough to put up. I cut my own about 5 weeks ago and put a small number of painted highlights at the roots to keep going (picture below just after I did it). Otherwise it would be sticking out all over the place with a very dark highway down my part. I have had to fix a few places as it grew, but thank goodness it didn't go too crazy. I have an appointment with my hairdresser a week from today. She owns her own place and never has more than one person at a time anyway so I think it is pretty safe. She was able to open this week after submitting plans on how she would operate.

Love the masks and yes, the smell of bacon is a lure it is difficult to ignore. DS briefly tried to be a vegan while in college and I used to joke that I was going to fry bacon to break him as I know he wouldn't be able to resist (I didn't really do it).

QOTD: The original Jaws scared the heck out of me possibly because it was set locally? I couldn't swim at night even in a pond because of the scene when the girl gets grabbed. When I see the movie now I chuckle at how they did the special effects back then, but at the time it sure was scary!

Your dark highway, as you call it, is all the rage with the younger girls. Before C-19 I had seen tons of girls with dark roots and blonde hair on purpose. You are very trendy!

I watched Jaws for the first time as a teen on the Cape in a little rental house with my friend's family. It was so "meta" to watch it there and we had a blast that night, but it definitely made the next few days in the water a little less fun!

Good Friday morning everybody!

Up early because I'm too tense and worried. Don't mean to be a Debbie downer on a Friday but what's happening in this country really worries me. As if C-19 was not enough, let's just add racism and ignorance to the pot too just to see how we can deal with it. It breaks my heart hearing and watching the news. I'm one of those people that can't not imagine my son in that situation and get really scared for the direction this country is going. I was too stressed yesterday to post but my favorite quote is from Martin Noemöller :

"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out--because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out-- because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me."

QOTD: I always had to sleep with the closet doors closed. I never actually imagined a monster in there but somehow didn't feel comfortable with the doors open. Until I saw Mosnters Inc and realized that's what I was afraid of when a kid. :) I was also lucky enough that at first me and my two brothers were sleeping in the same room. When my sis came along we got girls room and boys room so I actually never slept alone growing up.

My meals yesterday:

  • B: protein coffee
  • L: TJ chicken fajita
  • S1: Fage yogurt + 30 dark choc chips
  • D: stuffed bell pepper
  • E: 6 miles wog

My SIL took this pic on her run. People living in Santa Cruz have stickers on their cars saying "keep Santa Cruz weird"...I don't think they should ever fear that SC would be normal. I love this girl's ingenuity.

Have a good Friday and weekend.

PS. Julia, love those masks. I told CJ I want one too, to the chagrin of my husband and kids! ;)

I'm very worried about what's going on in this country, too. I'm sure that's why I have been so stressed out lately. The one-who-shall-be-unnamed is now trying to politicize what's going on in Minneapolis and is threatening violence to boot. This will only further divide the country (as if it needs to be divided any more than it already is) and just isn't going to end well. We need strong leadership, but sorry - what we have now is NOT. Things have been going from bad to worse.

I didn't realize that Voldemort's phrase "when the looting starts, the shooting starts" is actually something used in the late 1960s in the wake of riots. I guess it shouldn't surprise me for somebody who never reads he also doesn't learn from history.

My roommate is a 6'6" black man. Many people who see him are afraid. If he is driving and someone is being obnoxious as soon as they see who is driving they back off. Having spent a lot of time with him (we used to be in a relationship) it has really opened my eyes to how pervasive racism truly is in this country. I'm about out of outrage, this violence has been normalized and it is difficult to sustain when daily there is another incident, another life lost senselessly. I want to believe that things can change but right now in the midst of all of this I truly have my doubts. Someone send me a dose of optimism I really need it.
