How long did your surgery take (RNY) ?

Mine did have a few complications but it took about 3 and a half hours. I was in the hospital for 6 days. I wasn't able to walk the first couple of days as I was passing out and throwing up even water. Mine was a little bit more difficult in that week. I wasn't allowed any pain killers, only nausea and tylenol. They said it seemed to be from a sensitivity to the anasthesia.

Now two weeks post-op.

Wow! I couldn't imagine! Kudos to you for getting through without pain meds past Tylenol! Glad things seem to be a bit better right now? Are you able to keep things down? I would assume you are on the soft stage?

I started processing yesterday but it's still pretty difficult. I have two different types of nausea as the Zofran just wasn't doing much and they wanted to get the vomiting stopped. I can get down about 2 oz twice a day for now but sugar free popsicles are my lifesaver. I can now get down one atkins shake slowly and I add genepro to a 32 oz glass of water-makes 30 p for that. I am adding now around 450 calories but up until yesterday was realistically at around 120 or so.

I see my surgeon and nutritionist tomorrow-hopefully they can let me understand how much more the bloating and swelling will go. I can update after that as well.

again, wow. Thank you for the honest response as I want to be prepared for anything and I get nauseous with other things, so I am hoping surgery doesn't trigger it. Hopefully your meeting with the surgeon/nutritionist went well.

Mine took a bit over an hour and a half and he repaired a hiatal hernia too. I was walking an hour after I got back to my room and home the next day. I had a pain ball filled with numbing medication and took nothing else except Tylenol.

I am told I have a hiatal hernia as well so that will be repaired (hoping good thoughts for surgery soon). I had minimal heart burn so I am hoping that when everything is repaired I won't have to worry about it again

Mine took around 40 mins according to my surgery report. I was up and walking as soon as I got back to my room. Had my last narcotics in Recovery.

Up next day and home. No pain, slight discomfort, zero complications.

I was 350 lbs but followed my pre-op diet to a t. Mine was 1.5 hours, I woke up in recovery, and had to stay the night at the hospital. It was super annoying, I had no problem peeing and no gas pain, but they kept coming in all night to wake me and ask me questions. I was so happy to get released the following morning to go home. I had no pain and no complications and I frankly wondered if they had actually done the surgery.

When I lost 100 lbs in 4 months (massive drop thanks to my massive starting weight), I believed I had surgery. But that first week, I wasn't so sure!

When people say what should I bring to the hospital, I say, chapstick, a pillow, a cell phone charger. Don't over complicate.

Good luck!

Great tips! Thank you! Have you maintained or kept losing? How far out are you?
