There's always the huge "who has better tacos" Austin or San Antonio, but I gotta say... as an SA native, I love them both. I think we are really fortunate to have lots of talent forging new types of tacos, and also, lots of grandmas who still make them lovingly behind the scenes. You can always tell when you get a taco from a mom and pop place that's made with love.

BBQ, its been so long since I've eaten any but when I did, yes, Texas BBQ would have always been my go to as opposed to any others.

when we went to San Diego about a million years ago, all I wanted to do (besides sight see, of course) is eat fish tacos, because I'd read about them and about the only place you could get them in the country back then was the San Diego area. I think we had them every day! Luckily, they're now available pretty much everywhere..

I have a funny San Antonio food story for you. I was visiting the office there and asked if I could bring in donuts or something for one of the morning meetings and my colleague said "stop and get kolache"....and told me where to go to get the "best". I was very excited because I had no idea that Texas had so many kolache places that there was a "best' and other "not best" because we only get kolache when my aunt makes them for easter and Christmas.

I was so disappointed to find that kolache in Texas are rolls with sausage stuffed inside vs the delicious pastry with poppyseed or cherry in the middle with super sweet icing. I mean, the Texas kolache were good but they were not what I was expecting. My colleagues were happy though.

That is funny. I have only had the grandmother kind.

OMG YES. No one calls them what they really are, klobasneks. The kolache is the cheese/fruit one, the other (meat) is a klobasnek! I will admit, the local places I go to, they call them kolaches and it's just kind of accepted. But once you know (and have had) an actual kolache, it's just disappointing to NOT get one!

Good morning, everybody!

If my son's floor can make it two more days without going into a COVID lockdown, we will be traveling out to Golden for parent's weekend on Wednesday. I don't think that there are any planned activities, but it will be great to see him. I think that on Friday, we are going to go to one of the parks near Colorado Springs, while my son is at his classes. He has already warned us that he has a lot of schoolwork to do while we are out.

Which reminds me. When we dropped him off in August, me and my son flew to Denver and Marilyn and my younger son drove so that they could bring his computer and monitors out. We all drove back, except the student. The first night, we stayed in Omaha, Nebraska. We got up fairly early and we drove through Iowa on a crystal clear Sunday morning. Marilyn turned on the radio and the second song they played was Cat's in the Cradle. What a Tear jerker.

I've long since retired and my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, I'd like to see you if you don't mind
He said, I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time
You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, dad
It's been sure nice talking to you
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

Cat Stevens is on my shuffle when I run. My favorite of his is Wild World but I do tear up at Cats in the Cradle.

the only version of that I'd ever heard was Harry Chapin's. So I just googled it to see if Cat Stevens sung that, too - and he did! I'll have to listen to it - I'm pretty sure I've never heard his version before!

actually - I just googled it again. Actually, he didn't sing that song - it's a bit confusing, though....I'll read up on it when I have time later this afternoon.
