Morning! I've been inconsistent about coming to post here because work has been insane. I sit down at my desk at 8am and I'm occupied straight through until the end of the work day. We had a freak (large) power outage yesterday that also resulted in an LTE outage. I had to drive 15 miles away to find LTE so I could have a telehealth visit with the geneticist that I had been waiting 6 months for an appointment with! I'm finally, finally going to get the genetic testing for MODY (Mature Onset Diabetes of the Young, a monogenetic form of diabetes that accounts for less than 1% of all diabetes!). The good news is, the last time I inquired about the testing they quoted me something like $2,500 and that wasn't going to cover testing for all possible genes. The max out-of-pocket now is $250 even if my insurance doesn't cover a penny (it won't)!

QOTD: I don't ever dress up for Halloween but my kids are going to. My oldest is going to her boyfriend's house - each kid had a "person" that we see and their family social distances to the same degree as ours. They have to social distance from their "person" if they or we see anyone outside of the agreed upon people. Her boyfriend's family is a doing a Halloween "party". They have four children, so that will equate to a party. My youngest's "person" is her BFF who lives across the street. So, we're going to do an outside back yard BBQ and pumpkin carving with them. Our neighborhood has agreed that if someone participates in passing out candy then they are to put treat bags out on a table at the end of their walk. I told my daughter that she could potentially go around the block Trick or Treating if she wore a KN95 mask. I'm not worried about the actual TorTing, but just the hoards of potential unmasked and unsupervised children on the side walks.

My Food:

  • Coffee w/ Cream x3
  • Eggs w/ leftover grilled onions, peppers, and mushrooms and cheese
  • Spaghetti Squash w/ meatballs and sauce

I got in a 1.3 mile walk this morning. That's about how far I can manage before I start to get sore. My 2nd surgery is confirmed for 12/1 - as my MRI showed that I also have tearing on the left side. So I'm going to get in as much activity as is safe in the next 5 weeks before I'm down for the count again!

That is great new about the price of testing being feasible. Do you account the tearing to exercise ? I am noticing some pains in some places I did not have prior to running. Just worried I may be over doing it.

I have femoroacetabular impingement which is a congenital defect, but it's not uncommon. For my whole life I've been unable to draw my knees to my chest, forward fold, etc. For years when I brought it up they told me the issue was related to my weight. Basically, the head of my femur isn't round and also the socket has over coverage. So when I try to bend they hit and pinch the labrum of the hip which causing tearing. Running 100% accelerated the issue, but it probably would have happened either way. hip impingement is the #1 cause of hip osteoarthritis and people with it commonly have hip replacements early in life (early-50's or earlier). I have a small amount of OA, but we caught it early enough that hopefully I can avoid early replacements.

It sounds like you (and your bubble people) have been able to strike a safe balance that allows for some human interaction outside your core family. That is so awesome!

You are so thoughtful! You made gift baggies for your new boss' kids? You're so kind :) Now I feel like a Scrooge over here! I am going to think about who I can surprise with Halloween goodies!
