Oh forgot about French Onion. We have a restaurant called Fat Heads and they make a chicken Parm soup that looks like French onion. Thy use a tomato base and shredded chicken, toasted garlic French bread and cover with provolone and toast it. I have not been there in a long time but that is good stuff.

My father worked in the steel mill. Back in the 1950's and 1960's there would be a steel strike almost every four years. Sometimes they would last for three or more months. My parents planned for them but if they dragged on longer, money got really tight. Two things we had when we were broke was pancakes for dinner or beef vegetable soup.

My sister and brothers called the soup Strike Soup. I thought it was delicious. When I got married and told my husband I wanted to make soup, he said that was like serving dish water. But I made a pot of it anyway and he could not stop eating it.

I make my soups in an old fashioned pressure cooker. For beef soup, i cook stew meat until it is very tender. Sometimes I add short ribs. Then I pressure cook the vegetables too. I never bought the Insta-Pot. I just did not want to store it. When I have to replace the pressure cooker, I will buy an Instapot.

I lived that way growing up also. Dad worked at Steel mill. Once every 3 years. Dads brothers worked there also so not like you could go to family for help. I remember a lot of ground meat dishes. Chili, **** on the shingle. The best part was all the homemade bread. Friday was bread day. Mom would crank out 10 or so loafs. I bet this helped lead to WLS. Lots of Pasta as well.

G'morning all!

Dear lord, is that a house cat? She is huge!! So bummed you didn't make it to the festivities, but as Kelly said, 16 more hours and you are done with this nonsense.

If there is a shortage of Mexican cauliflower rice at your Trader Joe's you can blame me! I can't get enough of it. I buy two bags at a time and make about 4-5 lunches out of it (with ground Turkey, chicken or shrimps). I am now paranoid that they might run out so I keep buying and hoarding. So there...I have confessed.

QOTD: I LOVE soup, all kinds of soup. My grandma was the master soup maker when we were sick. My mom was a great soup maker for every day...in short I grew up on various soups. Nowadays the Trader Joe's autumnal harvest is my favorite soup. I reserve it for sick days because like most of you gotta get that protein in before anything else.

My meals yesterday:

  • B: protein coffee
  • L: chicken + Mex cauliflower rice
  • S: PP + espresso on the rocks
  • D: hb eggs + tuna pouch
  • E: 4.5 miles jog

Happy jr Fri-yay!
