RISK! I used to play that as a kid - loved that game. I wish I still had that set - old school weird shaped wooden pieces.

G'morning all!

I noticed something yesterday. I was talking about grey furniture and Trish responded "oh yeah, gray is in!" Do you guys notice the difference? So I checked and realized my spelling is British while Trish used the American spelling. And I also noticed this a couple of days ago when I texted a friend "towards" and she answered "toward". I realized that my first encounter with English langauge has been through English teachers and profs. Infact I had my first American prof as a jr in college; his accent was jarring for all of us used to British profs. So even after almost 29 years in US I guess my roots still show.

QOTD: backgammon hands down. But it has to be on a wooden set so you hear the dice rolling. None of that carpeted sets. My dad gave me a beautiful hand made wooden one as one of our wedding presents. He said you can't go to a new home without a backgammon set. The rivalry in our family is off the charts, we get bragging rights for months and months. I try and get my kids excited about it but they are not that into it. They know the rules but don't get the level of rivalry.

My meals yesterday :

  • Coffee
  • Hb eggs with tuna pouch
  • Fage, chomp stick, PP w/iced coffee, jello
  • Innards of two street tacos
  • E: cardio + weight

Happy hump day!

I once did work for two competing project teams, one Brit one US and the number of times they tried to correct "theater/theatre" "center/centre" etc was so so annoying. Scarlet/Scarlett and grey/gray were always "one is a color, one is a name, for me.

I had that problem when working with a group from Spain and another from Argentina. Oh man, their pride in their language and the "correct" way to speak it was just pure theatre for me to sit back and watch. I always claimed ignorance and innocence as "it's not my first language, I'll go with whatever you tell me!"

PS. Hah, I just noticed how I spelled theatre. Some things do stay with you, no matter what.

Out of laziness I opt for the American version!
No "u" in color or flavor.

I believe that in early America printers shortened words (removed the u or other letters) to making printing easier and cheaper.

good morning! Stressful around here. We blew a fuse and you need to be a contortionist to reach it. Rog is about to blow his own fuse. I'm trying to help, it's pretty much one man work. Other than that, I need to run to the market for more sunscreen and bug spray and hope to get to the pool this afternoon.
QoTD. We are a big Farkle, Phase 10 and Yahtzee family. As we are all adults, Yahtzee has been known to devolve into "drunken Yahtzee " where the winner of the last game gets to call a special rule for the next game. Like you have to play straight from top to bottom. And it's a buck a game. We keep a running debt sheet, but nobody seems to pay up. Haven't played that since surgery and that's probably a good thing!
