Hey Gang! We made it to the end of the week. Happy Lil' Friday!

It was great to be able to rest my hands yesterday. They really needed it. I kept the warm heat on all day and only did a few quick assignments on the computer. I tried so hard to sit on my hands and avoid using them for most of the day so I watched a lot of tv and movies. This morning my right hand is back to normal but my left is sore still too swollen to make a fist. Today Grim and I will run some errands including mattress shopping, so I should be able to keep my hands from anything too intense and hopefully the left one will be back to normal tomorrow because I need to make more bags of icing tomorrow!

QOTD: One of the things I watched yesterday was the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once (so good!). If you haven't seen it, it's about the possibilities of us all living in an infinite number of universes where you could be anything. It got me wondering--what would you want to stay the same in every universe, no matter what? I just need to be a coffee drinker in every universe. If I can drink coffee, I think I can handle everything else that comes my way. There is absolutely no reality in which I will be okay as a tea drinker, lol.

Good morning QJB and menuers,

Glad you survived the cat!

QOTD- Yep.

My brain has been telling me that it's surely Friday since yesterday...so it's Friday, right?

I had a dream that a big black scorpion jumped off the wall in my house and attached itself to my arm. I was eventually able to wrench it off but my arm was purple and a mess. I don't remember too many dreams these days and wonder what my subconscious is trying to tell me. Another office day today and it's packed with meetings. Woo!

I did get the InBody scan done yesterday. It was a simpler machine than my nutritionist years ago used to use, so fewer metrics, but had some interesting results. Ultimately, I'm at 23.3% body fat. It recommends I lose a whopping 0.7 pounds of fat to be at my optimum goal. I did share that I'm over 40, so the recommendations should be taking that into account. I've also got a good amount of muscle, though could use more core strength. Sharing a picture in case anyone here has experience interpreting results. Something to think about since my waist still clocks in at 38.5 inches.

Accountability- Happy hour brought a small piece of bread dipped in whipped butter. Not worth the calories (thanks Prue!). No alcohol. I also swapped out almost all of my planned food for a 42g Fairlife protein shake and a Powerful protein shake on top of the Ratio yogurt. My guts are not processing well the last couple of days.

Exercise- Recumbent bike! Still putting off more/heavier weights outside of yard work. Doctor follow up tomorrow.

Menu - Thai chicken, clam chowder, ratio yogurt, flavored tuna packet.

Cheers, everyone.

23.3% of body fat for women is actually on the leaner end of the normal range, so you're perfect where you are! I should get another DEXAscan or do the InBody thing (there's one at our gym - I think they charge $10 or something to do it - so much cheaper than a DEXAscan). I'm about eight lbs overweight according to the BMI scale, but when I had a DEXAscan about 15 lbs ago, my body fat was 21% - which, if you go by the body fat way of measuring where you are, is technically slightly underweight (I learned through the readings in my nutrition class that body fat percentage is a much better way of categorizing people as "underweight, normal, overweight, obese"). It could be that I'm actually OK when going by the "body fat" scale. I really should check instead of fretting so much that I'm "overweight".

Ooh, I got price gouged! $60 as a non-member for the scan. Glad to have it, though. It's a good data point and gave different information from my bathroom scale or BMI. I'll take this with me Friday and to my 9 month discussion in a few weeks to get feedback from the clinic. Health is my metric, and I did a lot of Googling during my bout of insomnia last night. I'm good with the body fat percentage and will ask about the waist measurement to see if that's something they think I should be focusing on. At this point, there's loose skin and such to take into account.

And thank you for all your feedback along the way. I've leveraged your knowledge and what you've shared about the DEXA scans and body fat as you age. It's so helpful! I can go to my appointments armed with data. Medical folks love that. :)

I think that as time goes by your waistline will shrink as long as you continue to exercise. I have noticed that my panus and waist have become leaner over time despite the hanging skin. I believe that adding weight lifting into my routine has really helped with this.

different places charge different prices. Plus this one was at a gym where you have to have a membership. $60 is still cheaper than a lot of DEXAscans. Some university sports labs have them and if they're available to the public, they're usually pretty reasonable, but commercial places like DEXAFit seem to be charging around $150 a scan.

That tracks with what I saw online. Anywhere from $90 - $150 and they were all commercial within a five hour radius. I'll have to ask whether that gym has a membership price. Don't think it's in the cards at the moment but something to keep in mind! I also saw that InBody has a home scale model using handheld devices for increased accuracy. It'd be paid off in less than six scans...

This was not a dexa scan (I thought you had written you were having a dexa scan)? I am having an InBody Analysis soon which is bioimpedance. You should be proud of that body fat %. Awesome.

It was not. I wanted DEXA but the closest I could find online without calling every random medical facility is a three hour drive. InBody I'd done before during my last loss cycle and is better than nothing. And there was one located 7 minutes from the office. Convenience won out! I'm glad to have this representation since my bathroom scale says I'm at 19.9%. Ha.
