There is a promo code for Southwest Airlines for 25% off base fares. It is J4SAVE. I am not sure how long it is valid for. I can fly into Orange County for the price I quoted above. Check to see if that would work for you also.

G'morning all!

QJB - have a great time with your mom. I actually believe a Mother's Day celebration off the calendar is more fun. You don't have to deal with the crowd and your mom will feel extra special.

Weather here is crazy. We hardly see the sun with temps in high 50s, while in the valley they have the temps in the mid 80s. Typical hot day pattern and you would think I'm used to it by now. But every morning I wake up hoping for sun and I see the gloom of fog. We just need to power through mid August.

Question for the hive. When you get high school graduation notices, let's say for high schools not near you and you have not seen the kid more than 5 times in his whole life...should you be sending a graduation present? What is the purpose of these graduation notices if not asking for a present? I guess I'm still a FOB, because I didn't send out graduation notice to anybody for my kids. We had a party and invited family and friends, but they were people who were part of the kids' lives, not just because we were friends with parents ions ago.

QOTD: I have curly dry-ish hair. I also sweat a lot while working out. So I shower everyday, condition the hair and rinse. I shampoo once a week. I go through bottles of conditioner much faster than bottles of shampoo.

My meals yesterday:

  • Coffee
  • Amy's egg bites (Amy I thank you everytime I make these)
  • Protein pudding, iced coffee w/PP
  • Mex cauli rice with chicken bites
  • E: 5.5 miles wog

Happy hump day!

I only send a gift if I have actually had a conversation with the kid while they were in high school!

I'm a big believer in celebrations that aren't Hallmark holidays exactly because of that. Knowing that you were on someone's mind or they were thinking of you to send you something special without an occasion is a bonus, in my opinion.

Speaking of which, I was shopping on nuts.com and found a cinnamon honey butter we used to have when I was little. I found out it's a regional product made in Pennsylvania, which is why I haven't seen it since. I've ordered some and am going to randomly send it to my mom to trigger those childhood memories from 35 years ago. I also have a crummy memory and wouldn't want to have to remember to send it separately for her birthday later this year.

No feedback on graduation etiquette, sorry. Times have changed since I got out!

I guess it depends on the relationship you have with the parents. Yes, I would agree the graduation announcements are for presents for the kid so they have money to go to school or start their future endeavors. However, sometimes parents want to brag about the kid's accomplishment. I would only send a present if I had an established relationship with the kid, the parents, or they were related to me.

I always send something. However, I believe the intent is only to let you know there is not a complete F-up and they did graduate. But what so you do with the pictures they send. I got a box of random people's kids and probably can't tell you, most of their names. I hate to throw them away. LOL
