Topic: RE: Reactive Hypoglycemia

Hi! I haven't been on this forum for several years but am doing great! I developed "reactive hypoglycemia" after my RNY in 2008. I could barely have any carbs without my body making too much insulin causing a blood sugar crash. I finally got a continuous glucose monitor and discovered that I was having critically low blood sugar levels during the night most nights. My doctor did some research and started me on Diazoxide. After a dosage adjustment, I haven't had a problem in a few months! I have been able to eat normally and enjoyed my first gelato while in Italy!! Fruits are back in my diet and it's fantastic!

Maybe this can help someone else having the same issues!

I don't know why they give the nutrition of the Syntax for 1/4 of a scoop when you use a full scoop making it . A full scoop is 24g of protein.

Go back to your blender! BUT, use the pulse option to not get the foam. Hit the button to blend and then let it go. If you keep the blender on it will just make it foam up. Do that enough times to blend it and get the lumps out and it won't be foamy. If you like them with water (I do it with milk too) add some ice cubes to the blender too. Each time you hit the button the cubes will make the drink even yummier and not foamy.

At 2 weeks out I would not recommend eating anything that isn't protein, especially if you aren't drinking protein shakes. Your pouch is too small to be adding fruit or other carbs. The thing with carbs for me was the more I had, the more I wanted.

I LOVE your attitude of wanting to lose 100% of your excess weigh! I shot for that too and achieved it!! I'm 8 years out now and maintaining that 100% weight loss.

Have you tried Syntax Nectar protein shakes? They were the only ones that I liked, especially the Cappuccino made with ice and milk. It tasted like a coffee frappe and I like it so much that I still make them!

Topic: RE: When can I stop worrying about "Bounce Back?"

It's not a popular answer, especially to those who say that bounce back happens to everyone, but bounce back is nothing more than eating more calories than you burn. As we age our body burns fewer calories and as we get further from RNY our bodies absorb more of the calories that we consume. That is why we can never "coast"! I am 7+ years out and have never had "bounce back" or regain. I keep an eye on the scale and adjust my intake BEFORE it turns in to a 3 or 5 or 10 pound gain.

I wouldn't "worry", but just keep an eye on the scale and adjust as needed. It's a new normal way of life!

Martha :)

Topic: RE: SEVEN years!!!

I know that I'm not here much and many of you don't know me, but....today is my 7 year anniversary of my RNY surgery!!! It was the single best decision that I ever made for myself and my health. I still struggle to keep weight on (the the reason that I had to stop spending too much time here; reading about, trying to advise and putting my own plan into action were at war with each other).

Today I weighed in at 112 pounds A little under where I like to be, but I was recently away for 2 weeks and that usually happens to me when I travel.

Thank you for letting me come here and celebrate with you all!!

I think that between your surgeons office and your insurance company (or who ever sent the emails and reference numbers) the surgery should go forward tomorrow! Don't take no for an answer

I'm SO sorry Charmaine,

I lost my firstborn son at the age of 35 in November. It is a loss like no other, just take it day by day and if need be, hour by hour. Take care of yourself…..

I had no idea where that title was going!! Most food commercials gross me out these days. We don't have any Hardee's in the northeast so I can't say that I know which one you are referring to. The one that make me gag are the ones for fried chicken,

I've never been a fan of chocolate, even in my years of obesity! They must have a push on this new product as today I found it in my grocery store too. I looked at every bag of granola just last week trying to find one that wouldn't make me sick because of my RH. I have to stick to low carb and low sugar, which isn't easy in trying to find a granola. Most of them have LOTS of sugar, even some of the Bear Naked flavors.

(I hate Whole Foods too!)

My doctor and nut both told me NO to the Centrum Silver which I thought was OK being post menopausal. They said that I still need the iron and the Silver doesn't have any or enough (I can't remember). I just today got my delivery of the Bariatric Advantage Ultra Multi with Iron. The dose is 3 a day of the capsules. I have such a bad time swallowing the regular multis and can't stand the chewables any more!!

I'm glad you had a good visit!

Yayyyyy! I found the Bear Naked Honey Almond Protein Granola  I couldn't wait until I got home to try it so I opened it in the car and started munching. It's really good!! BTW: I found it at the Walmart Super Store about 25 miles from me, so I bought 6 bags of it, LOL!

Let me know if it is the Honey Almond! Maybe you can be my dealer . I'm going to the closest Walmart Super center today to see if they have it, but I doubt it. They call it a super center, but they don't see to have much….

Yeah, I like the vanilla almond! The honey almond has more protein and better stats for my needs. It's new, so it's not everywhere yet….

Thanks!!

Walmart here doesn't have it, nor does their website. Is it the Honey Almond Protein that you got??

I have seen that one in my search. Unfortunately it is very high in carbs and sugar and low in protein AND 175.00 to try it.

I've looked at all of those places with no luck. One place had the new packaging but not that new flavor. I will have to keep looking!

I have tried that kind that you linked, but I picked the cranberries out because they are sugared. I have RH, so I restrict sugar as much as possible.

Topic: RE: Yogurt - Ew

The ONLY yogurt that I can eat (low sugar/low carb) is Dannon Light and Fit Sugar and Carb Control. It must be the SUGAR an Carb control. It has only 3g carb, 2g sugar and 5g protein. It only comes in vanilla (yuck) and strawberry. I like it plain, with granola or mixed with fruit. Here's a link to their website http://www.lightandfit.com/light-yogurt/carb-and-sugar-control/strawberries-and-cream.

I hope this helps,
