Another question for you that have had the surgery:

If you do overeat, or eat too much by accident, what happens? Do you throw up? Does your stomach hurt? Thanks for the info. Christi

TMI........When I overeat(sad to admit but this has happened on a number of occasions), my mouth gets real watery- my chest starts to hurt and I keep swallowing my saliva but it has no where to go so it starts coming back up and that's I guess what they call "foamies".  I start spitting out my saliva and soon I puke.  It's not a good feeling but it happens.  The chest pain is so bad that you wanna puke just to relieve the pressure!

I haven't yet thrown up or come close - nor have I experienced foamies like some of the others. But when I overeat, it's extremely uncomfortable. It feels like food is stuck - and that I need to burp but can't. It feels like I should be throwing up - but I'm not at all nauseous. The feeling passes after about 20 minutes.

For me, this has been one of the hardest parts. I don't want to get into snacking. I try to eat 3 meals a day + a protein shake as a 'snack' in the morning or afternoon. So, I want to make sure that I'm 'full' when I eat meals so that I'm not tempted to snack between meals. But, I also want to not overeat - and while I eat meals, it's hard to gauge when I'm about to reach the brink. Unfortunately, trial and error is how I handle it....

The answer CAN be YES to both. Not everytime though. I have thrown up a few times, but fortunately, I am a fast learner. When I do get a little too full though, my stomach feels kinda miserable for a short while. I usually need to get up and walk around. Tummy's not getting mashed that way. LOL Nothing I can't deal with. I just stop eating when I get that first signal.

Handle every stressful situation like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
Just pee on it and walk away.

You will know that you overate right after that last bite!  I get so uncomfortable that you are better off letting come back out.  For me it feels like I cant take one more thing in, even breathing at this time hurts.  I try to be mindful of quantities.  Overeating is a challenging bad habit to break but after a few reminders you will get the hang of how much is enough for you

I can't really do it by accident. I feel it coming ahead of time. Oh god is it uncomfortable. It feels like pressure in your chest. Yuck.

I never threw up until last week.  I went to lunch with a friend and only had a skewer of shrimp.  By the time I got back to work I wasn't feeling to good and you guessed it I lost it!  I have not puked in 15 years.  I even went through Chemotherapy when I had cancer and didn't puke.   You would think you would learn but I had  salmon and i did it again.  That's all I had but sick twice in two weeks.  I will learn I hope.  Annie

Wow! thanks to everyone for all the replies! I'm glad to hear your stomach will tell you to stop. Now, before the operation, I just lay down on the couch when I overeat, lol. I need the built in mechanism of stomach pain to stop me!!!
