I recall posts saying to stop three days before blood tests for accurate results.

I have bloodwork Tuesday, do I quit all suppliments including bariatric  vitamin, iron, D and B12?

That's what I was told to do. No vitamins or supplements for 3 days...

That is good to know. I have to do my labs again in the next week or so.

Wow, I never heard that before, but thank you!!  I'm having blood work done at the end of Jan., so good to know.  You think our doctors would clue us in.

Hola!  I am popping this up to the top and letting you know that in our paperwork from Dr. Alvarez, it does say to hold our vitamins 3 days from getting our labwork done.  Its in the paperwork right before where it tells us which labs we ought to have drawn and tis ICD9 number!

Just in case anyone else was wondering N setch!

I almost KNEW I didnt make up that I had seen this!  :}

I was told to TAKE my normal supplements before any bloodwork was done.  That way, they can tell if you are actually getting enough supplement or not.

I can't imagine why any physician would tell anyone to stop.  That would lower your vitamin levels, and give an artificially low reading.

The way my NUT explained it to me is that you have a steady level in your blood and if you take vitamin D - 50,000 units weekly or inject B12 monthly and you take them that day, you are getting a huge dose at one time and that will artificially elevate your levels - it is just reading what you just injested or injected into you not what is actually circulating in your bloodstream.   I have to stop all my vitamins for 3 days and my Vitamin D and B12 for a week (take B12 and D - 2 times per week)  So far, I have very good blood levels.

I have to agree. I don' t see how they'll get a true reading. Your not normally NOT taking vitamins. I'd think they'd want a reading that shows you at your normal daily. I 've never been told to stop taking either of them either!

I am not sure why, I actually meant to post this on the main board and accidently posted it to VSG.  I know it is a LapSF thing and the DSers talk about it too.  I have read 24 hours on other sites, not sure where they come up with 3 days

Page 26 of the LapSF guidelines:

"Please stop your vitamins for 3 days before having these blood tests drawn – you may resume them after the blood test has been taken. "
