Rice and Pasta Alternatives

Hi my VSG sister and brothers,

I was wondering what alternatives you use for rice and pasta? I have heard of TVP, but are there any others and how do these work for you?

Also, do you still eat hamburgers or sandwiches? If so, what do you do about the bread?

Any and all answers would  be great, THX!

Google "quinoa recipes"!  Similar to rice, but much higher in protein.

Good luck,

Fred

If it feels good, do it!  And if it smells good, eat it!

If your wanting a healthy "pasta" try a spagettei squash. They are yellow and shaped kinda like a football. On the inside are what look like and TASTE JUST LIKE NOODLES. Throw on some sauce and a few meat balls and your good to go. Google them and try it at least once!

Try doing a Google search for Cauliflower rice or cauliflower mock fried rice. It's a good alternative to rice. I've seen a few cauliflower pizza crust recipes I've been meaning to try as well.

Quinoa is very good too! It's a whole grain (carb), but very high in protein.

The cauliflower pizza crust is awesome!! You have to try it to believe it. I just gave up on rice and pasta pretty much all together. Mean mean trigger food for me.

When  I make the family pasta, I put my sauce on spaghetti squash...yum!...or occasionally I will use whole wheat past a for me.  (but that is rare)
I love a grilled burgers..but I eat them like a steak...no bread.

I have yet to have a sandwish.  I will use some soft lettuce like butter lettuce as the "bread".

I do use corn tortillas..but never more than one a day.  I was told to stay away from carbs like bread and pasta until we are done losing..so I pretty much do that.  I am just used to it now and don't miss them.

I substitute quinoa for all rice products.  I prefer the red prewashed in a box.  It is different but I found I adjusted to the taste well. As far as pasta goes I seldom indulge but if I do I use Dreamfield pasta.  Supposedly there is a coating on the pasta that prevents you from absorbing the carbs.  It tastes just like regular pasta.

I love spaghetti squash!  I used to eat spaghetti all the time, and this is a wonderful alternative.  I never thought anything could take the place of pasta, but this is great.  I make spaghetti for my family, then spaghetti squash for me.  I can usually get 4 servings out of one squash, so I freeze the rest in individual baggies so all I have to do is thaw it out and reheat it next time.
