Chilli for puree stage of post op diet?

Ok so.. this may be a dumb question but is chili (put through the blender to mush the beans and such more) okay to eat on the puree/mushies stage of the post op diet?  I start my puree stage in 1 day and I was curious about things I can eat in this stage.  To be honest, I am sooo excited for puree stage. I am sick of full liquids. I swear all I've been doing the past week is drinking water and protein shakes ALL DAY.  Like from the time I wake up to when I go to bed and I still don't get all my protein in every day.

This is getting ridiculous lol I wake up and I drink, walk around the house, drink while watching tv, walk around, ect..  I feel like an imprissoned fish! Other than that though, no problems with the sleeve so far.  Except that whenver I smell REAL food or see it on TV my stomach starts to churn and growl and I feel like I'd chop off my own arm for some steamed shrimp or bite of beef stew lol.

So yeah, I'd really appreciate if anyone could give me some feedback on the blended chili thing. And um what about blended beef stew? Is that ok for puree stage too? Or is the beef too tough to put through the blender? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks all!

If you can puree it up so there are no lumps, both chili and stew should be fine. If the beef in the stew is really tender, it should puree. You could always strain out any larger pieces after you pass it through the blender. It should all be baby food consistency.

Pureed chili is excellent for the mushie stage.  The beans and tomatoes take the ick off of the blended meat.  Plain bended meat is gross.  Beef stew is doable, but make sure the beef is really really tender and use lots of broth and veggies in the mix.

Good luck

Thanks! I may have to be a bit careful with the beef stew but I'm definately going to try the chili. I was also wondering about eggs.  On my post op meal plan the surgeon's nutritionist gave me it says I can have hard boiled eggs (like in an egg salad type thing) during this stage so is it ok to have soft scrambled eggs?

eggs are soft whether they are scrambled or boiled so either should work- some people have problems with eggs though, some can tolerate scrambled but not boiled and vice versa. Weird. You kind of have to try these things and see if they work for you. If it doesnt work it comes up. Simple.

Ah ok, thanks very much! I guess I'll have to start slow and try things to see what is gonna go down and stay down well and what won't.  This should be fun lol

I had a little bit of a hard time with scrambled eggs at first. But, now I tend to use egg beaters and they just seam to sit better. And like the others I still love my tuna salad, chicken salad, and cottage cheese. It's all about trying and seeing. : )

Hi!  I just had my surgery 1-12 and can definately relate to liquid overload.  Everyone seems to have different experiences but in the our program the dietician does not allow red meat or pork for 6 mos to a year or 75% of weighl loss.  So I can't look forward to chili but  scrambled eggs, tuna salad, chicken salad and egg salad.  try some laughing cow cheese for flavor.

I agree that tuna, chopped chicken and cottage cheese are all my favs.  Those are things that sit well and are easy to measure. I also make homemade chilli and have been eating that about 3-4 ounces at max since about 2 months after surgery. It is great to freeze and then nuk when you want a meal. Wendy's chilli also works for me now but I have to pay attention and be sure to only eat half of the small chilli per sitting.  Good luck and just remember to chew well and consider that everything needs to be smooth consistency for your first 3 months while you sleeve heals.  I LOVE my sleeve!!!!
