Had my EMG on my hand.

I had the emg and it was not to bad they sent shock waves to my hand to make it move which was not bad.

Than a doctor came in and used needles to poke in my muscles of my arm now that hurt. She did 25 different pokes and than told me she had to poke my elbow the funny bone that is where I hurt the most. My nerve is pinched there and my two fingers have been numb for 3 months now.

So I told her go ahead and held my breath she tryed and tryed 5 times to get it in the muscle of my elbow I had to ask her to stop I it hurt so bad and she did stop and said with the other testing she did there is a problem with my nerve I could have told her that lol.

My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

What's an EMG and why did you need to have it done?

I was exercising on the elliptical using my arms and I pinched my nerve in my funny bone area. That was in January my doctor said I have Ulnar Nerve Compression at the Elbow. Have try ed physical therapy did not help.

I might be having my 4Th operation in a year now. He has to move the nerve from my elbow my little finger and ring finger tingle 24/7 and hurt all the time.
My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

I feel your pain.   I had this done about 15 years ago and got the same diagnosis as you. The nerve is shot! Genius, I say.  I'm glad we pay all this money for something we already know.  Hopefully, something can be done to relieve your pain.

Always the best wishes, Sue

I feel for you....I had one of these done prior to being diagnosed with carpal tunnel......not fun!  Wound up needing to have surgery on both hands (even MORE not fun).

sorry to hear but it's funny you are posting this. not sure why you had it done, but when I did it 3 years ago I was diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

even more funny is that I swear I haven't had the symptoms since I stopped the carb craze and did the surgery. I wonder if there's any correlation, have been trying to research a bit but did not found much about it.

I have been thinking about asking in the forum about it - the relation between VSG and CTS.

I too was recommended to have surgery on both hands but I say - if the symptoms do stop because of the VSG, I won't have the surgeries! ;)

has anyone had a similar experience?

I have had EMG's many times, but on my legs and feet. EMG's suck! I'm so sorry you have to go through that. Hopefully they'll be able to do something to help you out. I take Neurontin 3 times a day and that has really helped me. My dx is Peripheral Neuropathy.

Have you tried a Chiropractor? They can do amazing things. Some are kind of weird but all in all they can sometimes work miracles. You probably have a pinched nerve or subluxation which causes nerve problems. I have seen a Chiro for about 20 yrs now. I was in a wreck where 2 car**** me from behind while I was twisted checking on my children in the back seat. OUCH!!!
