I am on day 10 of my Pre-Op liquid diet and I am experiencing the WORST case of constipation EVER! For starters, I have had constipation since I started this diet. However, I was having bowel movements daily, they were just hard to pass. Today, it is kicking my ass! I showered and all of a sudden I felt this pressure that I had to go. Sat on the toilet for 45min. and only a little had come out. I could NOT bear the pain so I am laying in the bed as I type this...IN PAIN! I know this might be TOO MUCH INFORMATION but does anyone know how to overcome this?!

When I got constipated I had to increase my fiber. I started taking benefiber and it helped preop. Now, I'm still having issues post op because the benefiber doesn't seem to be working.

YOu can also get some colace which is a stool softner. Are you taking your calcium yet? Calcium causes constipation.

When I was on the pre-op, I would take 3 stool softener tabs before bed and then I would go in the morning. If you need to go NOW, I recommend getting some milk of magnesia. Works so good you need to be near a bathroom for half a day.

Try to contact your NUT, they should recommend something for you or ask if you can try Stool softeners, or tea.  I drink Smooth Move Tea! You can find it in most grocery stores.  I've seen it in target, Jewel, and Whole Foods! I drink it at night and in the morning I go!!! My Nut also, suggested Docusate (stool softener).  Good Luck

My Dr. recommended Miralax. I found the equivalent at Wal-Mart. So far it seems to be helping.

Good Luck,

Sounds like you need relief now.  Laxative (Milk of Magnesia), Fleet enema, or glycerin suppository.  The enema will work the fastest.  The laxative can take hours to work its way through you.
